A few people on other threads mentioned 1987. I know some of you were too young (not born) when that happened. The SEC made changes, so there would be more free flow of markets (not locking up). But for those who lived though it...A wild ride. You couldn't get a hold of your broker...No idea (within 20%) where your stocks were at!! When someone mentioned 1987, I was thinking about this scene from "The Big Short". It's so funny because it was real...This really did happen.
Each crash is different. Michael Burry profited from the sub-prime crises. Will he be able to profit from the next crisis? It will be difficult as the next one will be different from the last.
Yeah, but every crisis is driven by the same excessive greed and fear. Human nature, rather human stupidity, doesn't change with time.
China in some deep trouble - natural disasters, real estate and bank crisis, economic contraction. The problem, for me at least, is the credibility of the sources from which to gain information about China. It's hard to know which is CCP propaganda, which is too harsh of a critique of the CCP..., which is an exaggeration of the situation... There are some youtube channels(China insights for example) that show a dark reality in China. When FXI falls 10% on news about Xi staying in power it does not look good for the outside observer.
I was a stockbroker at a broker owned by Washington Mutual in Seattle. All my stock business disappeared after the crash.(I just started building a book of clients). After the crash I was fired and became a commodities broker at Refco office in Seattle. All in all I was watching the markets throughout the years but failed to profit from the rise of the market because of my bearish mindset. Too bad because I could use a 7 figure IRA account.
%% I thought many more ETFs with good liquidity would hold BABA\ good downtrend. Have to assume most all of it's propaganda. CCP , according to an older WSJ article; killed all the sparrows, grasshopper plague went to the max + famine killed about 30 million chicoms. I have a chinese crowbar+ small flashlight[WMT =seller] + both = very, very well made. Its really a wonder how well made those flashlights are made + that way for years
And they introduced the circuit breakers after that infamous Black Monday to deal with market crashes.
