Portfolio construction is an art, not a science. Some investors prefer growth, some like value, some favor large household names, and others prefer smaller companies. There's no one correct answer in terms of building a portfolio. However, if the events of the past two years have taught any lessons, one is that blue-chip stocks remain a leading option for portfolio construction. As things such as disruptive technology stocks and economic reopening trades have seen their fortunes violently swing about, blue chips have tended to offer more stable, predictable returns. Companies with a long track record of growing earnings and dividends that can withstand the occasional recession tend to provide the most reliable long-term results. With interest rates soaring and geopolitical tensions at unprecedented levels, the case for owning defensive blue-chip stocks is stronger than ever. Here are 10 of the best blue-chip stocks to buy for 2022.

    Verizon Communications Inc. (VZ)
    Walmart Inc. (WMT)
    Kimberly-Clark Corp. (KMB)
    Exxon Mobil Corp. (XOM)
    JPMorgan Chase & Co. (JPM)
    Home Depot Inc. (HD)
    McDonald's Corp. (MCD)
    American Tower Corp. (AMT)
    Visa Inc. (V)
    Global Payments Inc. (GPN)

You have posted quite a few recommendations.

    Are you monitoring your performance?
    Are you doing well?
Have you been able to make a profit from those recommendations?

In your portfolio, I'd swap out HD with Lowes.

It seems the stronger home-builder-DIY company. Marvin Ellison seems to have gotten the company back on track.

  4. Buy and hold has been dead for decades, (unless you’ve been in mega cap tech you’ve most likely massively underperformed).

    Some “Blue Chips” from 2000…
    GM
    F
    GE
    XOM
    T
    WCOM
    AIG
    BAC
    C
    BSC
    LEH

The only thing you should buy and hold is a low cost index ETF. For every “I’ve held AAPL since 2000” story there are 10,000 poor bastards who held the above dogshit stocks…or worse

  5. Walmart Inc. (WMT)

I'm not so sure, after all it's been run up during the pandemic and even the millennial investors have been bloating it up. Still, PE looks around 30 so it's not terrible in the current environment. Personally, I'd rather see WMT stop paying out the useless dividend and put that money to better use, instead of making me have to file away dividend taxes.

Months back I was comparing the two, and came up to the same conclusion. That said, if one still prefers to go with Walmart instead, I won't complain.

    Visa Inc. (V)

I don't know. She's no longer got clients in Russia, and will be facing more competition not just from UnionPay but also from all the new fintechs and bankless crypto systems becoming more mainstream and cheaper.

The latter, has been a concern for a few years now and will be expedited now by the war in Europe.

    McDonald's Corp. (MCD)

Time to time I have 'thought' about it. But not really going to bite unless I get a really good entry (ie. crash). And even then, I'm not so sure.

Already have AMT VZ & T options. (T has the better chart.)

Bought LOW today. Homebuilders, for whatever reason got rekt last week but will see if it can hold those FEB lows.

This is a great time to buy LOW. We are entering the plant season, and just like last year, people are going to want to spend to beautify their gardens. So their Q1-Q2 earnings should be awesome. Long-haul long on them.

I don't even pay attention to that stuff.

Just a play I took purely based off the charts.

Charts do not drive a company's performance, but rather the company performance drives it's chart. Lowe's always has robust business in the Spring season, with OSLG and renovations heading up into warmer weather.
