I cautioned on these boards weeks ago not to underestimate Trump or his appeal. Subsequent events have borne out my claim. The Trump bandwagon appears to be gathering steam, fueled by Trump's seeming obsession with touching supposed political third rails. The media have been his biggest asset, albeit not by design. Trump has managed to employ a two pronged strategy of appealing to the neglected party base on hot button issues and at the same time, totally dominating media coverage. The other candidates have been browbeaten by the media to condemn this or that Trump statement, the latest being the McCain POW flap, and most have been only too happy to oblige. One guy who has been remarkably reticent to criticize Trump however is Ted Cruz. He said something to the effect that he didn't think it was appropriate to criticize fellow republicans. Hmmm...three days later he goes on the Senate floor and calls the republican Majority Leader a liar. Clearly Cruz sees the traction Trump is getting and wants some of it. If that doesn't happen, he might just see himself as the logical guy to balance out a Trump ticket. And he'd be right. Trump and Cruz, the Boss and the Brain. And the two guys with the biggest balls in the race. This would not be Romney and Ryan, sipping Perrier before issuing 47 page position papers.
Trump is a non-starter here. Cruz is exceptionally bright and by all reports an outstanding scholar but I find him a bit too self-absorbed for comfort.
Trump has published a best seller, built a fortune, has a successful TV show but we need somebody with brains? You are implying that Trump, a Wharton grad, isn't smart enough?
Trump And Cruz, Possible Runnng Mates? WOWZA KAPOWZA... That'd almost make me go out and vote. But, I think the "country" is over, so...I don't know. But, some SHIT is definitely gonna have to be stirred to ever have any meaningful change. I mean some SHIT. And, if any two could do that, it would be Trump and Cruz. On the other hand, we can all keep kicking back while remaining assured that McConnell and Boner are going to keep things in order and keep looking out for us. Perhaps, McCain, Romney, or Jeb can get in there and "take care" of us.
