my prediction is that Merkel of Germany will attempt to pay the cost of immigration by creating a FTT.

We are heading toward socialism (frankly communism) and any remnants of free economy have to be destroyed. Trading is one of them. In the old days comrades would just shut down trading by force coming with the guns to the exchange. What we see now is new paradigm of doing the same in stealth fashion using law, regulation and taxation and changing the fabric of the society when all but chosen ones are equally poor. Immigration by itself would be hard sell to justify FTT but when living standards deteriorate partly due to immigration people will pick the wrong target an demand FTT.

yes, but unlike the subhuman societies that have succumbed to communism, USA has a long history of fighting for our freedom. You can only piss us off so much. Thanks to our second ammendment, even a grandmother has a gun tucked away somewhere.

the cost of immigration would be borne through higher taxes. the FTT would be seen as a painless way to achieve this goal by affecting a very small group of taxpayers.

Democracy and free economy have been subverted and tax system is one of the tools of oppression and not an economic tool any more (Lerner case for example). The founding fathers knew that once government will put their hands on money printing machines all freedoms are gone. If you did not notice it already happened. This is the mechanism of indirect taxation without representation to cover all needs of the ruling elites because inflation is in fact a tax (better yet robbery). On the other hand FTT is repressive and a threat of it will force financial institutions to fully comply if they did not do so. Therefore I think immigration and FTT are two separate issues in regards to taxes.

You underestimate your opponent because they know how play human psychology. You dealing with psychopathic element that knows no limits. The law of large numbers says that the US is already past the point of no return. By the time you figure it out if ever you will be hiding scared or fighting for food and not thinking about any freedoms.
