There is always a hard stop in place. Yes, it represents 2%-10% of the equity. Will i exit a trade before the hard stop is reached? Yes, very possibly. With targets..a target is always chosen, but no limit order is actually placed into the market place. Discretion is applied. Sometimes you are lucky like this week when i did not exit my short copper trade at my target but let it run. Even so, still closed it too early (coulda made an extra 100+ points today on it). OTOH, i closed my short dow position about 20 points from today's (tuesday) low even though it did not reach target. Where to take profits is imho the toughest part of trading.
You have to trade intraday with $300-500 max day loss (or start from $100 and moving towards $300). Best day must be at about $1000-1500. 10 unsuccessed days brings you a total loss of about $3000-5000 (15-20%). Estimated profit per month $3000-$4000 (about 3 best days value).
haha...i am taking some 4% positions on, but so far the losses have cancelled out the wins, hence not much net movement.
Thanks for your post, note that I'm not a day trader. So far losses about been around $600 and wins about $500 to 1k. I'm looking for a trade that i could pyramid into, say put on 10% risk in total. Let me know if you see one.
