I just received a Dell Precision 7960 (base model).

I run like 3 applications on it: Excel, Bloomberg, and Etrade Pro. This thing is crazy slow. It feels like it's deliberately wasting cycles.

My older PC (a Dell Precision XEON from 8 years ago) is much faster.

I've turned off the power saving settings.
I've turned off all the accessibility settings.
I have a fast and stable internet connection (wired to my modem getting 800mb down and 100 up).

    For example:
The task manager never spikes. But it takes about 10 seconds to maximize the window.

    Should have got a 5820 for $500

update the video driver and then the bios, Ethernet adapter and Wi-Fi drivers. Any other drivers. Do dell have a driver update program like intel does?

    update windows.

Given that the PC is like 2 weeks old, shouldn't all this be updated?

What version of the video and other drivers are you running compared with the latest?

Has the motherboard/chip got onboard graphics that is clashing with the nvidia card?

I don’t know how to check these things anymore. But I’m running the Dell diagnostics software and hopefully that will confirm what drivers I have installed.

Could it be that this type of a computer is not suited for individual use?

What CPU do you have ? 1.5 GHZ for 32 GB Ram ???

On the Dell website the PC is only available from 2.1 GhZ and up....

Would advise you to return it ASAP.

Dell products are the absolute best, but often get delivered already faulty.

    I bought the basic system (w5-3423 2.1 to 4.2ghz 12 cores, 24 threads)
I downgraded the memory to 32gbx1 dimm instead of the standard 16x2.

    otherwise the standard system.

I'm trying to refresh the drivers now. it's hanging.

Did you go through the installed programs list and uninstall all the bloat? (Especially the Anti-virus crap)?
