Why are we having this pointless convo? Its about different things to different groups, some want to use the imagined proceeds to finance illegal bailouts, others want to use it as a means of control because they are anticapitlist control freaks, I dont "think" I am aware, it would be difficult to find a person who has followed this topic since the beggining who did not have a good handle on the different groups and their motivations, the latest study to hit the America states that although it is viable on one level currently there are to many unknowns and as a tool to punish the financial sector it is the wrong one, there are much better alternatives.

That last point being vital to shaping the debate in America as it was in the UK, worthy of note hence I posted it, we dont need to go around in circles and disccuss things we have done so many times.

    it never ends.
    today from the NYT.
    http://www.nytimes.com/2015/07/22/o...lick&contentCollection=Opinion&pgtype=article.
Senator Bernie Sanders of Vermont, who is seeking the Democratic nomination for president, has done just that, by proposing a financial transaction tax: a small excise tax, typically a few hundredths of a percent, on trades of stocks, bonds, derivatives and other securities. An itty-bitty, one-basis-point transaction tax (a basis point is one-hundredth of a percentage point, or 0.01 percent) would raise $185 billion over 10 years, according to new estimates by the nonpartisan Tax Policy Center. That would be enough to finance an ambitious expansion of prekindergarten programs for 3- and 4-year-olds and restore funding of college assistance for low-income students. <http://www.nytimes.com/2015/07/22/o...ick&contentCollection=Opinion&pgtype=article>

"we dont need to go around in circles and disccuss things we have done so many times."
most posters are clueless to the math behind the FTT, which shows that even .001 tax would them out of business. then there are the the usual braggarts I can trade some other instruments other than stocks where the FTT doesn't apply.

Comments on that one as nauseating as the article, we will never run out of have a go experts. The author can be contacted directly but these days I don't see the point, driven by greed and a perception of "social justice". Looks like bernie the sicko socialist is doing very well in the polls at this point.

The transatlantic partnership, a while back we heard unconfirmed rumors that it prohibits such taxes.
