Russia, US move past Cold War to unpredictable confrontation

Washington (CNN)It's not a new Cold War. It's not even a deep chill. It's an outright conflict.

US-Russia relations have deteriorated sharply amid a barrage of accusations and disagreements, raising the stakes on issues ranging from the countries' competing military operations in Syria, disputes over Eastern European independence and escalating cyber breaches.

"This is a conflict, there should be no doubt," said Matthew Rojansky, director of the Kennan Institute at the Wilson Center, on the US-Russia confrontation.

Lavrov denies Russian influence over US election

On Tuesday, White House Press Secretary Josh Earnest said the US was considering a "range" of "proportional" responses to alleged Russian hacking of US political groups. Washington publicly accused the Kremlin of cyberattacks on election systems and the democracy itself last Friday. That came after talks on a Syria ceasefire broke down as US officials suggested Russia be investigated for war crimes in the besieged city of Aleppo.

Moscow has steadfastly denied that it's meddling in the US presidential election. In an interview this week with CNN's Christiane Amanpour, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said it was a baseless accusation.

"It's flattering, of course, to get this kind of attention -- for a regional power, as President Obama called us some time ago ... We have not seen a single fact, a single proof," Lavrov said...

  2. I suspect that Putin is more scared of Hillary than he is of Obama.

Everyone knows that stoners don't do aggression. And she has a lot of pent-up anger from the constant right wing attacks over the last few decades.

MOSCOW (Reuters) - Americans should vote for Donald Trump as president next month or risk being dragged into a nuclear war, according to a Russian ultra-nationalist ally of President Vladimir Putin who likes to compare himself to the U.S. Republican candidate.

Vladimir Zhirinovsky, a flamboyant veteran lawmaker known for his fiery rhetoric, told Reuters in an interview that Trump was the only person able to de-escalate dangerous tensions between Moscow and Washington.

By contrast, Trump's Democratic rival Hillary Clinton could spark World War Three, said Zhirinovsky, who received a top state award from Putin after his pro-Kremlin Liberal Democratic Party of Russia (LDPR) came third in Russia's parliamentary election last month.

Many Russians regard Zhirinovsky as a clownish figure who makes outspoken statements to grab attention but he is also widely viewed as a faithful servant of Kremlin policy, sometimes used to float radical opinions to test public reaction.

"Relations between Russia and the United States can't get any worse. The only way they can get worse is if a war starts," said Zhirinovsky, speaking in his huge office on the 10th floor of Russia's State Duma, or lower house of parliament...

This story doesn't get the attention it deserves.

Yes, we're very close to WW3. NATO, Obama, Hillary etc all want to force a conflict with Russia. All want to shoot down Russian aircraft. Putin warning of nuclear war within a few years if NATO continues deploying advanced missiles along russias borders.

Did America love the cuban missile crisis? Do we tolerate Russian missiles in the Western Hemisphere?

    Who are the hypocrites here?

And you fucking queers libel Trump as the doomsday candidate.

Hillary is literally setting up a military conflict with Russia. Obama is real fucking close right now. Russia just rolled in their S-4000 anti-aircraft missiles. Instituting no fly zones around their ground forces. Shit is getting real fucking dicey now. Obama arming and financing ISIS. Hillary armed ISIS in Libya. Came out in the emails. Do your fucking homework.
