The star of the most popular show on cable, Duck Dynasty, has been suspended indefinitely after making remarks that were insufficiently enthusiastic about homosexuality in a magazine interview. He compared homo sex unfavorably with normal sex and also made Biblical references. The usual gay hate groups were immediately out in force and A & E responded quickly. http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/live-feed/duck-dynastys-phil-robertson-indefinite-666808
I suspect this will not be a repeat of the Paula Dean circus. Duck Dynasty is bigger than A & E, and the Robertsons' views are much closer to those of their audience than homo activists are. Conservatives are stepping up to defend him. Bobby Jindal made a statement saying it is a messed up situaiton when Phil Robertson is suspended and Miley Cyrus gets a laugh. http://www.weeklystandard.com/blogs...and-phil-robertson-gets-suspended_771478.html Jindal also made the observation that the PC crowd is tolerant of all viewpoints, except the ones they disagree with. Sarah Palin called it an attack on everyone's free speech rights. http://www.politico.com/story/2013/12/sarah-palin-duck-dynasty-defense-101319.html?hp=r11 This could be a tipping point if conservatives stand together and give A & E some blowback. This is nothing short of an attempt to say that any criticism of the homo lifestyle or homo sex is totally unacceptable. Any mention of religious issues relating to homoseuxality is forbidden. If the biggest star on cable can be silenced like this, what does it say to the rest of us? But if we can make a stand, finally, this could be the bridge too far for the haters and censors. Tiem for all those republicns who were happy to glom onto the Dynasty popularity to stand up for something. I'm not holding my breath.
The first time I saw duck was over Thanksgiving with family. I had wondered what all the fuss and excitement was about and wanted to watch an episode or two. It was too stupid to watch for over a few minutes, I don't get it.
The perennially indignant strike again. I mean, I don't really care - I'm not a fan of DD, a follower of any Sky Fairy or a militaristic gay (or anti gay) nutjob. Don't even watch TV except for football. Still, didn't seem like the guy said anything really terrible. Only `tards run around being offended all the time. Maybe being gay rots your brain.
I don't care what the guy said....the has a right to speak his mind. I'm sick of the backlash people receive for simply disagreeing with the protected members of American society (gays, blacks and women). And this is coming from a black male. It's crazy that people risk their entire livelihood just because they dare have an opinion of their own about these groups that differs from the narrative pushed by mainstream society. With stunts like this, these groups will continue to wonder why they're outcasted and it's not because people don't like them for WHAT they are, it's their self-victimizing attitudes...having to walk on eggshells when you're around them.
All part of the Liberal agenda.. with the complicity of the MSM. America is rotting. Likely won't be completely putrefied for another 20-40 years. Enjoy what's left, if you can.
Well stated. That unfortunately is the PC agenda. They know their arguments on the merits of various issues are not appealing to the mainstream, so they try to just stop all discussion.
I will preface my comment by stating that I have never watched an episode of DD. I have no more interest in watching hillbillies to dumb shit than I do watching the Kardashians do dumb shit, so I exercise my freedom to watch something else. I did read the man's entire statement to the question he was asked and was not surprised at all that this is what a Christian hillbilly would think. Is he entitled to his opinion? Absolutely! That isn't my problem with this, other than the very same people, gays, demanding tolerance for their lifestyle while condemning the other guys. What I do have a problem with is the pussies over at A&E for firing a guy who is doing and saying exactly what they promote on the show. A show that from what I've heard does quite well for them, and I would suspect that the audience for this show is fully supportive of this guys position on gays, religion, guns, and happy Negros in cotton fields. So why alienate that audience when we all know it's about the dollar for the network? Stupid! I also have a continuing issue with the super thin skinned, activist gay community. Get over yourselves, please.
I don't really care about the gay issue, per se, too much. It doesn't affect me personally. I do worry that impressionable young people are being sold a lie, but I'm not in a position to do much about that. What upsets me is that this is a direct attack on religious liberty. The same crowd that lectures us about how we should be tolerant of muslims and "respect" their religious beliefs is actively trying to punish Christians for voicing their beliefs. The idea that homosexual conduct is sinful and unnatural is a core tenet of virtually every major religion, not just Christianity. Christians do not hate homos. Far from it. Christians know better than anyone that we all have fallen short and that it is not up to us to judge. At the same time, don't expect us to say that something is fine when we know it isn't. Or to deny our faith because it offends you.
