Are you kidding me? Are rich people dumber than we thought? --- Nearly a hundred top Republican donors and Bush administration officials sent a letter to the House GOP on Tuesday urging lawmakers to pass a bill that legalizes illegal immigrants, arguing that the current system is already allowing them to stay and so it makes sense to register them and bring them into the system. The donors, led by former Bush administration Cabinet officials Carlos Gutierrez and Spencer Abraham, also said that immigrants are potential Republican voters who can be won over â if the party can be seen as welcoming to immigrants. âDoing nothing is de facto amnesty. We need to take control of whom we let in our country and we need to make sure everybody plays by the same rules,â the donors said in their letter. They aimed their pitch at House Republicans, who are trying to figure out a way forward and find themselves trapped between angry rank-and-file voters who say legalizing illegal immigrants amounts to amnesty, and party elites and donors who say the GOP cannot survive nationally without embracing legalization as part of a strategy to win over Hispanic voters. The donor letter came the same day that the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and 400 other businesses and umbrella groups fired off a letter to House leaders of both parties, urging them to pass something â though the business leaders did not specifically call for legalizing illegal immigrants. Both the business leaders and donors appeared to be sensing the momentum for immigration legislation slipping away, little more than a month after the Senate passed its version on a bipartisan 68-32 vote. http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2013/jul/30/top-gop-donors-party-legalize-illegal-immigrants/
Another nail in the coffin of the republican party. These are the same people who will urge them to vote for the next Voting Rights Act to reimpose unconstitutional preclearance on red states the dems want to inundate with fraudulent voters. They were the same crowd who argued that "free" trade would be good for the country. It was good..for the elites. Not so great if you happened to be a factory worker.
Of course they support Amnesty. Slaves are plentiful and cheap labor. I've said it before and I'll keep saying it. During the 70's and early 80's it was obvious America needed an upgrade and re-tooling. The power brokers, (people who can live anywhere so a trashed out America is really of no concern to them), had a decision to make. Which was going to be more profitable? Invest in that upgrade, or dismantle the system piece by piece? We know what the decison was and here we are. End game right around the corner.
âDoing nothing is de facto amnesty..." That's probably true enough. Of course it's their GD fault nothing has been done in the first place.
No, it's not amnesty. They are still subject to being deported and can't legally work. Also, there is no path to citizenship, and applying for the full panoply of welfare coudl be dicey. So it's just another lie they are telling us.
Speaking of lies and liars, here's one of the biggest ones in the Senate, which is saying a lot, John McCain telling a labor group that the extra border security will get negotiated away in conference. Now you see it, now you don't. http://www.politico.com/story/2013/07/immigration-border-surge-john-mccain-94927.html Like that article I posted the other day, the really striking thing about this is the comments. This is Politico, a liberal DC news site, not some rightwing site. These guys are not showing much love fo rMcCain.
That reminds me of McCain claiming to not know that the Senate immigration bill would change the law on forging passports to require anyone to make at least three forged passports before it is a crime. If you make one or two, no problem. Uncle Sam has your back. What sort of nonsense is that? And some Senator(s) think that is a good idea. What a crock....
I am reminded of his famous campaign video with that arizona sheriff where he was braying "Build the dang fence." I think the commenters to that article have it about right. He is a lying POS.
I'd rather they "shot transgressors on sight"... machine gun nests about every 500 yards... wouldn't be long before problem solved. We're just playing a stupid game with the "open border + illegal suck-tit illegals."
