With all due respect, I disagree. No one wants to break into a house where the owner has essentially declared that he will shoot them with no reservations. This is not some "keep off the grass" sign.

  2. Doesn't seem to be the case. Colorado Castle Doctrine already authorizes deadly force if someone illegally enters your domicile. In fact, if criminals are paying attention, they should expect to be shot. I think that's a good thing. You never know whether someone just wants to steal your iPad and wallet or also wants to kill everybody inside to leave no witnesses. In a tragic story here a few years ago, a couple of punks robbed a pizza restaurant on a busy street... and killed everyone inside to boot.

All the TV news stories here where some bad guy gets shot in someone's home (not that there are all that many).. always seem to end with "no charges filed" against the homeowner.

  3. Not all of them. That Montana homeowner that killed the German exchange student was charged and convicted.

  4. Waaaayyyy off the mark and out of context. (1) "Montana"... "here" is Colorado, and (2) German exchange student, 17, shot dead by Montana homeowner who had set up trap with purse as 'bait' to catch burglars in his garage

Baiting people to commit burglary then shooting them is a far cry from "defending yourself in your home".

  5. If they'd gotten their stories straight, baiting wouldn't have ever come up or been an issue. Better yet, if they had waited to talk to their lawyer first.... With a decent lawyer, they can probably get it overturned on appeal.

The baiting aspect is dubious. Anyone could claim they were baiting an intruder by leaving the car parked in the driveway or garage, or accidentally leaving the garage door up, or a door or window unlocked.

Their defense attorney must've really sucked...
