Court rules Steel âcrossâ will stay at WTC memorial The Second Circuit Court of Appeals on Monday rejected a bid by American Atheists Inc. to remove the famed cross-shaped steel beams that survived the 9/11 attacks from the National September 11 Memorial & Museum. The federal appeals panel sided with Manhattan federal Judge Deborah Battsâ ruling last year that the relicâs historical importance outweighs potential concerns over issues of separation of church and state. â[Given] the absence of any evidence of ulterior religious motives, and the undisputed historical significance of The Cross at Ground Zero, we conclude that, as a matter of law, the record compels the conclusion that the actual purpose of displaying the cross in the September 11 Museum is a genuine secular interest in recounting the history of extraordinary events,â the panel wrote. http://nypost.com/2014/07/28/steel-cross-will-stay-at-wtc-memorial-court/
separation of atheism from state seems to be on the rebounding. for a while there it looked like the govt and the courts were really supporting the merger of radical atheism and state. Athiests have every right to believe in whatever wish or not wish and I support their right to be free to do so... but I think the should keep their crazies out of the courts. Keeping that cross around is not something they should be suing over.
