Principal Calls Student Racist Because He Wore White, Made âWâ Sign During SCHOOL SPIRIT WEEK A star high school athlete in rural Marshalltown, Iowa has been suspended for three football games this fall because he posted a social media image of himself enthusiastically festooned from head to toe in white clothing during school spirit week. In the photo, he made the letter âWâ with his hands â which in this case stands for white. The student is Blair Van Staalduine, reports Des Moines NBC affiliate WHO-TV. The studentâs parents say the the principal of Marshalltown High School called Van Staalduine a racist after concluding that his hand signal was a white pride symbol. The parents have now responded to the suspension and the charge that their son is a racist by threatening to sue. âWe were appalled,â his mother, Cathy Van Staalduine, tol WHO-TV. âWe were appalled and so was he. Absolutely. Because the furthest thing from Blair is being racist.â The school colors at Marshalltown High appear to be red, white and blue. Van Staalduine wore white because school officials had asked members of his class to wear white during school spirit week festivities. âThe actual school chose the colors that each grade would be wearing,â Cathy Van Staalduine explained. âJuniors wore white. So Blair, of course, being active in the school, dressed from head to toe in white.â She noted emphatically that the âWâ sign was for the color her son was assigned. âBlair says if they were wearing orange, they would have done an âO,ââ she said. The mad mother said she talked to the principal, and he managed to call her a racist to her face. The Marshalltown High School principal is Aiddy Phomvisay, according to the Marshalltown Senior High School website. The Van Staalduine family is now demanding that the principal quash the suspension and issue a public apology. Otherwise, they say, they will file a lawsuit to protect their sonâs good name. As for the actual image showing her son making a âWâ sign, Cathy Van Staalduine said she is holding it close to the vest in the event that this incident actually ends up in court. School district officials did not respond to a WHO-TV reporterâs request for comment, citing student confidentiality. Census figures from 2010 show that the quintessential small-town Iowa hamlet of Marshalltown has a population that is almost 85 percent white and less than three percent black. A cursory Google search for âwhite pride hand signâ and the like shows many fists, some Hitler salutes, some Los Angeles gang signs and a lot of sad losers â but nothing that much resembles a âW.â So itâs unclear what the hand gesture could have looked like. According to MaxPreps.com, Blair Van Staalduine is a tight end and a linebacker for the Marshalltown High Bobcats football team. Last year, the team didnât fare very well, finishing the season just 1-8. Read more: http://dailycaller.com/2014/07/17/p...ause-he-wore-white-made-w-sign/#ixzz37jy9joKJ
They'll have to sue. These leftwing nazi's never back down unless forced to. The good news is there are lots of lawyers who will take this kind of case for free. Most of these cases tend to involve religious issues or balancing students' free speech rights with school discipline. This one is totally over the top. What if the kid were a white power racist? Does that give the principal the right to deny him the chance to play football? Does a kid lose the right to post controversial things on the internet because the principal doesn't like them? It's an interesting case because it shows just how totalitarian leftists want to be. The outcome should be the shcool district loses on First Amendmentgroudns, meaning they will have to cough up legal fees to the kid and his lawyer, and the principal gets hit with a defamation award. He may weasel out of it through some kind of qualified immunity protecting government officials acting within their duties in good faith.
more controversy . . -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- A recent article criticizing white gay men for perpetuating "aggravating" and "damaging" stereotypes of black women has sparked many conversations about race and the queer community. The author of the piece joined HuffPost Live along with other critics to discuss whether the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) community needs a race check. Sierra Mannie, the University of Mississippi senior behind the op-ed in Time, said she is too frequently approached by white gay men giving her their best âShaniqua-from-around-the-way voice." She attacked them for trying to "claim either blackness or womanhood." "Iâm mostly very upset [by] these negative stereotypes," Mannie told host Nancy Redd. "I kind of summarize it in the first paragraph in my piece -- being approached and spoken to as if Iâm a 60-year-old black woman; being approached with someoneâs best ghetto girl impression on." Kaila Story, an associate professor of pan-African studies and gender at the University of Louisville, echoed Mannie's sentiments. She said that since coming out, she has had white gay men approach her saying things like, "Hey girlfriend, hey girl," which she finds "incredibly racist." hip hop culture can make into the suburbs... a few years ago my wife and her friends were all girl friending each other. I thought it was ridiculous but I did not say anything. Because, I once learned a lesson about trends... I remember when everyone was dressing like they were from Greenwich or parts of New England. Cords , Khakis and straight legged pants, button down shirts, wide whale cords during the holidays? It was insufferable and excruciating. These interlopers were destroying the integrity of my peoples culture... they had no sensitivity to what we found important. I thought about asking my Congressman to speak out, but friends reminded me this too shall pass and it did.
thanks for asking... I may be the first trying to get this message out.... through all the global warmster chatter... personally, I am conserving water... what I would really like to do is let my lawn die out and so should all my neighbors on so cal ... but my wife would never let me until we are forced. I see water being wasted all over... and it is driving me nuts. It really seems like the state is trying to cause a crisis. They flush water out to the ocean to save the smelt and they are way behind the curve on forcing conservation. I thought we were going to get bailed out by the coming warming and humidty of an el nino... but the the initial signs of el nino seem to be seem to be stalling out. if the el nino does not happen and we continue to cool... it is not looking good. unfortunately cooler temps means dryer drought like conditions. The suns cycling down and I think cooler dryer times may be ahead for the southwest. We really should be seriously conserving water right now as a cycle of global cooling may be on the way.
Seriously, let's assume the principal was not a dickhead moron and was correct that the kid was a dyed in the wool racist. So what? Does he have the authority to condition participation in school activities on having "correct" beliefs? Could he bar him from sports teams for not believing AGW hysteria? Opposing gay marriage?
maybe I am not the only one... its seems the real scientists guys... understand that warming means water... this just came out today.... http://www.dailydemocrat.com/breaki...rought-blankets-entire-state-el-nino-forecast But not every El Niño is a drought buster. Patzert says El Niños come in small, medium, large and jumbo. The small and medium ones don't produce rainstorms. "I don't want to be the spoiler but what the data shows me is this El Niño is not building. It is dying," he said. Climatologists from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's Climate Prediction Center in College Park, Md., released a bulletin earlier this month saying there's an 80 percent chance of an El Niño-Southern Oscillation in September, October or November, and 82 percent chance from November to January. However, national climatologists have backed away from predicting a strong El Niño like the one that doubled the area's average rainfall in 1997-98. "It is different than what folks were thinking a few months ago. At this point we are only favoring a moderate type of event," said Michael Halpert, acting director of NOAA's climate center, in an interview. Halpert said the warmer ocean temperatures seen in March and April, which would trigger the jet stream to deliver more storms to Southern California, are not as warm anymore. "It doesn't compare to 1997." Having a tilt toward an El Niño winter is a lot like a gambler going to Vegas with loaded dice, he said. He's more likely to win at craps, but the house is still strong. "It might work out. We might have a wet winter. But in the field of climate science, there is no way we know for sure," Halpert said.
If the family file suit this might be a good case for the Court to draw a bright line and protect speech against the fascist state being created by the dems and the establishment Rs.
I am constantly amazed at the crap parents and students take from the education establishment. Take these "volunteer" requirements. A lot of school systems force students to complete approved, ie liberal, "volunteer" activities. What gives them the right to dictate how a kid spends time outside of school? What if he has to work or look after a sick parent? What if he wants to work on his golf game instead? What gives them the right or the authority to force what is in effect slave labor? They say it is "good" for the kids. Well, so would eating right and working out two hours a day. There is a line between what schools are responsible for and what parents control, and in my mind, they are way over it.
