I am interested in get myself more exposed to circles of traders, especially algorithmic traders. But I am in California and I cannot find any interesting local events. Any suggestions on good conferences or other events for traders?

  2. Trading by nature is not a social thing... Think about it, when you're trading, you're competing with everyone else to take their money. I'm not going to go to a group to share what took me years to do well.

Much better to hide in a cave, do your own testing and develop your own method. That's what the best traders do!

There's some yearly conference in San Francisco but I wouldn't say it's very good. The best social type meetings would be organized by your clearing firm or just asking people one on one.

I'm always happy to meet with anyone in California.

I have always found going to a University Business department to find out about local clubs or taking a course in Continuing Education to find like minded folks. As far as events, those would be Expos. Surprisingly, sometimes contacting companies looking to hire put me touch with possible connections. And often anything related to programming and gaming, I would at times learn more about risk with those folks than with trading people.

I wouldn't agree with that. We have all the black boxes in the world that nobody needs to see and I have a beer with a quant trader at least 3 times a week in London.

People just like to speak with People and it doesn't involve giving out trade secret.
