RNC document mocks donors, plays on 'fear'

  1. The Republican National Committee plans to raise money this election cycle through an aggressive campaign capitalizing on “fear” of President Barack Obama and a promise to "save the country from trending toward socialism."

The strategy was detailed in a confidential party fundraising presentation, obtained by POLITICO, which also outlines how “ego-driven” wealthy donors can be tapped with offers of access and “tchochkes.”

The presentation was delivered by RNC Finance Director Rob Bickhart to top donors and fundraisers at a party retreat in Boca Grande, Florida on February 18, a source at the gathering said.

In neat PowerPoint pages, it lifts the curtain on the often-cynical terms of political marketing, displaying an air of disdain for the party’s donors that is usually confined to the barroom conversations of political operatives.

The presentation explains the Republican fundraising in simple terms.

"What can you sell when you do not have the White House, the House, or the Senate...?" it asks.

The answer: "Save the country from trending toward Socialism!”

Manipulating donors with crude caricatures and playing on their fears is hardly unique to Republicans or to the RNC – Democrats raised millions off George W. Bush in similar terms – but rarely is it practiced in such cartoonish terms.

One page, headed “The Evil Empire,” pictures Obama as the Joker from Batman, while House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate Majority Leaders Harry Reid are depicted as Cruella DeVille and Scooby Doo, respectively.

The document, which two Republican sources said was prepared by the party’s finance staff, comes as Chairman Michael Steele struggles to retain the trust and allegiance of major donors, who can give as much as $30,400 a year to the party.

Under Steele, the RNC has shifted toward a reliance on small donors, but the document reveals extensive, confidential details of the strategy for luring wealthy checkwriters, which range from luxury retreats in California wine country to tickets to a professional fight in Las Vegas.

Guess what???? The Republicans will get all of those wealth donors too. Because the majority of America, especially all Independent/Democratic conservative voters now see the true socialist dictator Obama has become, when he promised to have a transparent, open, govern from the middle administration. Now he's trying to ram a health care bill down our throats, while the majority of America opposes it.
Keep on the crusade GOP. It's obviously working!!!! You'll be the party back in power very soon!!!!:D :D :D

  3. Wow, look at this shameless baffoon. Here his party is exposed for shameful behavior and he is playing it up and predicting how well they are going to do. :p

The Repugs have been shameless for quite a few election cycles now, at least as far back as 1994 but probably much earlier. They wear their effrontery like a badge of honor, only backing down when they think it might cost them some votes.

And why haven't the ET Repugs shown up on the thread yet  :p

    So what's the problem again?

  7. First, give me a definition of Socialism and whether your definition will label countries like Germany, Japan, UK etc as socialist.

Second, links/sources when the Democrats did what you say they did. Putting down the opposition is not the same as raising 'fear' to get donations, you seem to be missing that distinction.

Third, what about the terms RNC used to refer to their donors and supporters, do you agree with them as well. You dont find them demeaning to your self respect?

  8. Amazing that you mentioned those countries who's economies are the highest debt to GDP in the world, or currently falling apart due to a real estate/banking collapse,or a previously failed state, that is weak, but lucky enough that the people have a high savings rate where they "look" ok.

  9. If these countries are indeed socialist which you are lightly implying which is causing their debt issues then how come US has the same issues similar to these countries?

Vladimir Lenin defined socialism as a transitional stage between capitalism and communism. Germany, Japan, UK as socialist? I think they have aspects of socialism incorporated in their government/society.

What I said they did? I quoted YOUR article.

"ego-driven"? Certainly sounds like most of the wealthy I've known.
And since I'm not what I would consider "wealthy" I don't particularly have a problem with it, especially since imo it's mostly true.
