Pulitizer Prize Winner Claims American Army Most Violent and Murderous

  1. “There has never been an American army as violent and murderous as the one in Iraq”
Pulitzer-winning investigative journalist Seymour Hersh slams Bush at McGill address
    By Martin Lukacs
    The McGill Daily

Speaking to launch McGill’s interdisciplinary media studies program last Wednesday, Hersh said he had seen video footage of atrocities in Iraq.

“The bad news,” investigative reporter Seymour Hersh told a Montreal audience last Wednesday, “is that there are 816 days left in the reign of King George II of America.”
The good news? “When we wake up tomorrow morning, there will be one less day.”

Hersh, a Pulitzer-prize winning journalist and regular contributor to The New Yorker magazine, has been a thorn in the side of the U.S.
government for nearly 40 years. Since his 1969 exposé of the My Lai massacre in Vietnam, which is widely believed to have helped turn American public opinion against the Vietnam War, he has broken news about the secret U.S. bombing of Cambodia, covert C.I.A. attempts to overthrow Chilean president Salvador Allende, and, more recently, the first details about American soldiers abusing prisoners at Abu Ghraib prison in Iraq.

During his hour-and-a-half lecture – part of the launch of an interdisciplinary media and communications studies program called Media@McGill – Hersh described video footage depicting U.S. atrocities in Iraq, which he had viewed, but not yet published a story about.
He described one video in which American soldiers massacre a group of people playing soccer.

“Three U.S. armed vehicles, eight soldiers in each, are driving through a village, passing candy out to kids,” he began. “Suddenly the first vehicle explodes, and there are soldiers screaming. Sixteen soldiers come out of the other vehicles, and they do what they’re told to do, which is look for running people.”

“Never mind that the bomb was detonated by remote control,” Hersh continued. “[The soldiers] open up fire; [the] cameras show it was a soccer game.”

“About ten minutes later, [the soldiers] begin dragging bodies together, and they drop weapons there. It was reported as 20 or 30 insurgents killed that day,” he said.

If Americans knew the full extent of U.S. criminal conduct, they would receive returning Iraqi veterans as they did Vietnam veterans, Hersh said.
“In Vietnam, our soldiers came back and they were reviled as baby killers, in shame and humiliation,” he said. “It isn’t happening now, but I will tell you – there has never been an [American] army as violent and murderous as our army has been in Iraq.”

Hersh came out hard against President Bush for his involvement in the Middle East.

“In Washington, you can’t expect any rationality. I don’t know if he’s in Iraq because God told him to, because his father didn’t do it, or because it’s the next step in his 12-step Alcoholics Anonymous program,” he said.
Hersh hinted that the responsibility for the invasion of Iraq lies with eight or nine members of the administration who have a “neo-conservative agenda” and dictate the U.S.’s post-September 11 foreign policy.

“You have a collapsed Congress, you have a collapsed press. The military is going to do what the President wants,” Hersh said. “How fragile is democracy in America, if a president can come in with an agenda controlled by a few cultists?”

Throughout his talk Hersh remained pessimistic, predicting that the U.S. will initiate an attack against Iran, and that the situation in Iraq will deteriorate further.

“There’s no reason to see a change in policy about Iraq. [Bush] thinks that, in twenty years, he’s going to be recognized for the leader he was – the analogy he uses is Churchill,” Hersh said. “If you read the public statements of the leadership, they’re so confident and so calm…. It’s pretty scary.”

  2. I think it would be neat to see one of those violent and murderous American soldiers slit Seymour Hersh's throat. Bet he whines like a little bitch......
  3. Another aging moonbat, like Kerry dreaming of those wonderful days in their youth when they could attack our soldiers with impunity. He actually wants a repeat of the most shameful days of our country, when poor kids who had been drafted to fight LBJ's war were abused when they returned home.

At least he's not claiming he "supports the troops", but don't look for any democrats to criticize him.
  4. Hersh and the circle jerk of moonbats found here and elsewhere are the "useful idiots" of this century.
  5. You cant whine having your throat cut, you insensitive, ignorant prick.
  6. Why is it that Democrats never miss an opportunity to miss an opportunity?
  7. Typical ZZZ....never misses a chance to rip the U.S.A.
  8. Typical Longhorns, never misses a chance to be a troll....

  9. ZZZzzzzzz, You have the audacity to call someone else a troll. Thanks for another of your 6000+ posts a year.
  10. Why arent some Americans open to hearing bad things that are true? You only hear good things?
  11. Our short communication time aside, I think you are pretty sane, especially compared to some of the stuff I've seen written here. You say "...most shameful days of our country" and I agree on multiple levels. Drafting kids to fight a questionable war, at best, was horrible. Events at MyLai and other places were obviously shameful. Trashing our soldiers by radical punks back then was shameful, of course, without a doubt. National guard troops killing college student at Kent State was horrible.

I can't believe that you are following the "Kerry calls our troops stupid bandwagon", I don't really think anyone does. Kerry was stupid to even attempt to connect those vague dots to Bush, much less to those proud Americans"stuck in Iraq".

What ever happened to "those who don't study history, are destined to repeat it"? I think that was probably what Kerry did such a horrible job trying to communicate.

Now this guy trashing our Army as being "most violent" and "murderous" is horrible, even if, by some accounts, there may be some merit to it. Hang on, don't get riled. Isn't that what armies are supposed to do? Aren't armies trained to kill? When all is said an done, I would prefer a tough army vs. a pansy army.

  12. Because in this case what the numbnuts Seymour Hersh is saying isn't true. Truth is one thing, some dickheads opinion is something else entirely.
Truth is, the Bush administration has really screwed the pooch in Iraq. That's truth! Implying our troops are muderers is the opinion of another peacenik cunt that would rather lick the boots of radical Islam, or any other enemy, rather than fight for the freedom he so freely abuses.
  13. The current army might be the most violent in terms of the firepower it can deploy, but to call them "murderous" is a libel. In fact, this is the most over-lawyered war in history. Snipers actually have to get their bullets approved by Jag lawyers, because some female Jag officer argued that a particular type of bullet was illegal. Can you imagine how Gen. Geroge Patton would have dealt with her? In addition, there seem to be as many journalists as soldiers, each looking to make their reputation by catching US troops doing something wrong.

As for Kerry, he is on record saying the same thing years ago. I don't buy what to me is the strained attempt to link his comments to Bush. It was common during the Nam years for students to joke that if they failed, they'd end up in the Nam. Actually, it was true. Flunk out of college, which was actually possible to do back then, and you lost your student deferment. Hello Draft Board.
  14. I agree with the "murderous" part, our people did not freely choose and plan (premeditate) on killing anyone. The draft probably did force some C+ students to try harder vs. going to war. And, yes, this is certainly the time of "transparency" with the reporters and instant mass communication, thus causing one to wonder what the previous wars were really like.

Watching Baghdad Bob telling us that his city is not under fire, with bombs going off all the while behind him, was a perfect example of how video can force some type of reality. Americans, right or wrong, have generally believed that their soldiers were (and are) the "good guys" - and for the most part they are.

What concerns me is the blind faith we see in so many people, not accustomed to, or maybe not aware of, revisionist history. We were taught in grade school about the brave soldiers saving the world from "Indian Savages" during the 1700's-1800's in the U.S., and now, with all that behind us, we know full well that the white invaders were ruthless, and quite often, self serving and opportunistic. Did the end justify the means? Maybe, that's for people much smarter than me to decide. Do we see parallels in the current Irag situation? I think we do (not just Halliburton of course, but many "errors" in spending and spinning the war).

Jack Nicholson's line of "You can't handle the truth" keeps coming to mind.

Having to label bullets is just stupid on so many levels.

"How can we be right when everybody's wrong" also comes to mind. As well as Bob Dylans "With God on our Side". Sad commentary growing up with music always playing in the house. LOL. Media overexposure.

  15. the army should be murderous. now i can sleep well tonight. white liberals are convinced that every war in history is like vietnam. black liberals are convinced that every event is related to the civil rights movement. both of thier conversations always revert back to the 60s. thier stuck in a time loop.
baby killers? liberals wont wage war unless its for the right to kill babies in the womb.
  16. Mr. Hersh should have a sex change operation.

He is after all, a pussy in pants.

As for the US military, they should inspire fear. The more fear they inspire the fewer deaths that will occur on our side. Look what has happened to date in Iraq. They do not fear us, instead they look upon us as walking targets. If for once our military were "turned loose" to kick some ass, we would see a much different world.

Instead of letting politicians (who are after all complete pussies) control our military, we should let our generals get it done. I suggest bombing the shit out of every city where Iraqi militias exist today. I guarantee you this, after the mushroom cloud cleared over the first couple of cities, these fucking camel jockeys would changing their tune. Same thing for Iran. One or two thermonuclear "Al Queda Barbeques" is all it would take.

I would like to add North Korea to my list of countries we should bomb the shit out of...I will bet that if we gave that leisure suit wearing midget a little nuclear "surprise party", his big bad army would simply disappear into the woods. If not, well thats what tactical nukes are for...
  17. Mr. Hersh has as much right to speak his mind as Mad Putz has making his veiled comment on slitting Mr. Hersh's throat.

What you egotistical Neo-Klowns and IM-moral RepubliKKKunts keep on forgetting is that someone volunteering to fight in the american army is fighting to uphold your rights, which includes the right to speak freely ( as long as it doesn't impinge on the rights of others) . Unfortunately for america, most Neo-Klowns and IM-moral RepubliKKKlans suffer from an advanced form of congenital mental dementia, so logic and reasoning is lost to them.
  18. Yes he has every right.

    and he's a pussy
  19. Yes.
  20. Fair enough, just let's at least try to make sure it's the right asses that are getting kicked rather than just any ass other than your own.
  21. Those who have "volunteered to fight in the American Army" also have the right not be libeled and slandered by such a poor excuse for a human being like as SEYMOUR Hersh, you fucking jack ass.
  22. I have already served sir

Let me say one final thing as relates to kicking ass.

When you are on the ground at risk and conditions are hot. IF you are well trained, you act with control to make sure that YOUR ASS is not the one getting kicked. In many instances you are expected to restrict your actions to carrying out your orders. IF however people want to kill you and are shooting at you or setting off explosive charges near your position, you have one order that supercedes all others. Kill them before they kill you.

I think it is pretty godamn easy to talk about it here. Not so easy when people are trying to kill you. When I say certain people are pussies, I mean that they may not understand the need for military personel to protect themselves and to return fire. Frankly in this theatre of operations, if civilians get killed, that is just too damn bad.

    Is that clear?

  23. Libel my ass. You are as UN-AMERICAN as the r*gheads you're supposed to be "liberatin' ". You F'n maggot Klan F*gs don't have a clue what american soldiers are doing to average Iraqi civilians. I'm sure in your maggot book raping 13 year old girls and buring their bodies ties in nicely with the supposed "liberatin' " they're doing down there. :D

Go read up on your constitution, you piece of useless filthy shit.
  24. I agree.
Assuming you are referring to innocent civilians, then I don't quite agree. But I will reiterate what you said about it being easy to talk about here.
  25. Hey Maggot,

You [and dimwitted Seymour] use ONE instance where a few [criminal] soldiers [who are currently being punished for their crime] raped a girl to impune the entire American army . . . "In my book" that makes you the "F'n maggot Klan F*g" . . . have a nice day

  26. ah, the dumb wit concurs. The maggot might be a useless filthy returd, but at least it's not as insane as we thought it was.

    <a href="http://imageshack.us"><img src="http://img528.imageshack.us/img528/3994/oldgoatgj8.jpg" border="0" alt="Image Hosted by ImageShack.us" /></a>

    You're a useless old filthy goat. UN-AMERICAN scum F*g B*tch. Yet another R*GHEAD in disguise. :D
  27. Excellent observations.

I have been impressed by the control and discipline of our troops. You watch your best buddies get blown up by an IED that evryone in the neighborhood knew was there but said nothing about, it's not so easy to walk away. Somehow, they do it however. I happen to think that our tactics should be far more aggressive, but you have to respect the trigger pullers for their discipline and obedience to rules of engagement.

The tactic of terrorists or insurgents using the civilian population as human shields is one we have to learn to deal with. It is a war crime to use civilians as human shields or engage in operations that needlessly threaten them, but the media only seems to focus on criticising the US or Israelis. They give a free pass to the terrorists who put civilians at risk.
  28. liberal guilt and shame. your filled with guilt from every negative event in american history. your ashamed to be american. when muslims crash airplanes into our buildings you say "we deserve it. weve been so bad for so long. the muslims are just reacting to our evil." i say its an assualt and we have to kick the living ass off of these people with unrestained violence. how hard does someone have to kick you in the ass before you react?
maybe pro american or conservative men will wage war because thier testosterone levels are higher. i can only speculate.
  29. What is "unrestained violence"?

  30. unrestrained violence.
  31. So you think unrestrained violence is a good thing?

  32. I think the poster is referring to the type of violence the R*gheads are subjecting the american troops to.
  33. my q to the usual suspects in this thread...

is your criticism of hersh based on certainty that the kills couldn't have happened as he's interpreting them, or that you think it's justifiable even if they did? either way you're exhibiting an intellectual or a moral failure
  34. unrestrained violence should be used to repell unrestrained violence. its good for the military to use it againts islamic terrorist. its bad for me to use it against you, my community, etc. its ugly, and should never happen, but if it saves the life of one soldier or gives us victory the military should be allowed to show it to those people. this will never happen. the civilian leaders are legalistic, timid, weak, micromanaging, armchair generals.

  35. You gotta love these armchair generals. None of them have ever seen combat but all seem to be great military strategists ..... only in their own minds.

    <object width="425" height="350"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/g0lVygyEo2E"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/g0lVygyEo2E" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="350"></embed></object>

I'm sure these kids will grow up to be "lovers of american democracy"! ROTFLMAO! :D
  36. IMO Hirsch is a pinko faggot but you can take to the bank that the U.S. Army stationed in Iraq has a few thousand criminals. Out of 150,000 young men it would be difficult not to. Our troops accurately reflect the profound social problems inherent in American society and culture. It is what it is.

The funny thing though is the libloons go apeship over a GI killing a raghead but they wouldn't peep if the same kid back home in Compton had iced a fellow gang member.
  37. pathetic. sadistic animals...how many of them were involved? and all those arsesholes, probably an entire division doing absolutely nothing but encouraging this shite. this aint no isolated case of a couple rough elements...this video shows violence is accepted and welcomed by many many of the troops. i place the blame squarely on the administration for engaging in torture and for giving a lame moral example.
  38. In Gulf 1 troop planes came around the clock for months from Riyadh and Germany to the airport by me. There were gigantic crowds of strangers waiting.

It has been way different with this war so far - - just a few VFW guys waiting now on the planes that have come back. No wounded either - - we never see them.
  39. mr. hersh and his kind have no credibility. he is just another profit of doom, alarmist, running around in circles with thier hair on fire, because the world is coming to an end from (fill in the blank) 100 dollar a barrel oil, global warming and massive back to back hurricanes in 2006. (which never materialized).
he has no credibility because the media wants the power of elected officials. their goal is to control public policy by controlling public opinion and perception. each wants the power of walter cronkite. they want the power to say "in my opinion based on my facts we should do this or that", and then have the entire nation follow them. the days of a reporter having this kind of power is over. there are to many people like me that are hostile towards them.
  40. _____________________________________________

  41. furthermore in the series "the 10,000 day war" aired on the history channel, general william westmoreland in an interveiw said president johnson would call him in vietnam and say "i was just watching the evening news, and based on what i saw i want you to do this or that". westmoreland said "i would tell him what is on the news is not happening in vietnam, but i was ordered to do it anyway".
do you remember the trail of death (i believe it was called) in the first golf war? when retreating iraqis were caught in a trap and were taking unbelievable caulties from airpower? a reporter found out about it, cried "FOUL!" televised the story, made g. bush panick and order an immediate cease fire (we now have to fight the survivors). maybe these two presidents didnt want to be called bad guys.
nothing has changed. reporters and now add the bipartisan commision. more inept civilians creating more confusion.
  42. Another neoklown blaming the messenger for news they don't like...

  43. It can only be called news when it is unbiased reporting.

Otherwise, it is political propaganda, and should be discounted...
  44. So Fox news should be discounted, Rush Limbaugh, Coulter, Hannity, the White House press secretary et al should be discounted.

    Yep, agree...

  45. What news? Hirsch is stating an opinion. I fail to see any supporting facts presented. He could be wrong or he could be right. His words hardly merit the moniker of messenger.........
  46. Yep, and I see you also would include Hersh in that pile...

    My point has been made....
  47. i dont know who does more damage. the media or al queda.
  48. "Hersh described video footage depicting U.S. atrocities in Iraq, which he had viewed, but not yet published a story about."

Video footage of atrocities in Iraq is news. If you think he is lying about what he viewed, that is a different issue...

  49. So you discount Fox news, et. al.

    About freaking time...

  50. Always did, moron....
  51. Yep, you always did and do act like a moron...

Flame war, that is what you want, right?

  52. im one of those guys (and maybe you to) that will bust someone in the head if i have to. i could be wrong, but it seems that the military civilian leaders may be the type that would faint at the sight of blood, or violnce, dive under a table if you threaten them, beg for mercy, have never been in a fight, panick when the military recieves or inflicts casualties, dont want the MEDIA to call them bad guys, and want americas enemies to know how nice they really are. they are in charge of the worlds most destructive machine.
  53. wow, so u would do the same here? and the freaking reason? because there's none to fucking beat the crap outta crying boy.
  54. most violent and murderous

    The Real 2006
    'Iraq Body Count'
Iraqi civilians killed this year by ISLAMIC Terrorists :15,856

Iraqi civilians killed collaterally in incidents involving Americans:141*(includes civilians caught in crossfire who may have been killed by the terrorists)

We often hear from people who complain - in hit and run fashion - about the "tens of thousands" of innocent Iraqis killed by "American cluster bombs" and other instruments of destruction that the "occupiers" are supposedly dropping on Saddam Hussein's once idyllic "Muslim land." Sometimes the claims run into the hundreds of thousands. Sometimes even the millions.

Enter IraqBodyCount, an anti-war organization that was envisioned even before the Iraq War began, with the heady ambition of documenting each and every victim of American aggression in order to turn public opinion against the action to remove Saddam.

Somewhere along the way, however, harsh reality began to sink in that America was acting as no other country in history has ever acted to prevent civilian casualties in warfare. As a matter of fact, more American troops have been killed in the conflict than have civilians been killed by Americans. Americans are literally taking casualties to prevent casualties on the part of Iraqi civilians.
  55. Real nice post. As I suspected. Please start a THREAD with this FTF.
  56. All yours Pabst, if you want to. I'm tired.

What's the point anyway of trying to find the truth and "making" the I-Hate-America people believe it?

  57. Americas enemies aren't the arabs. The current arab drama is a cartoon side show.

Americas enemies are destroying you from within. They're being elected into your congress and already control all the key levers of power. You already pay them 0.50 cents for every 1.00 dollar you earn, soon you'll be working for them for free.

  58. Yeah I agree. In hindsight Saddam looks like mother teresa compared to bush.

The current Iraqi civilian death count is a direct consequence of americas invasion of iraq. You're not fooling anyone except yourselves by arguing otherwise.
  59. theres nothing i can do but complain. if the military civilian leaders have a mentality that says killing is wrong and their own portrayal in the media is important they should find new jobs. pacifists in charge of a killing machine? i want to believe that their stupidity and the media are not causing american casuslties. to me this is terrible.
  60. mr. smoke wrote"

What does this video have to do with being in a fight? It's a bunch of psychos beating on kids.
  61. none of my comments are related to the video.
  62. im black. in your mind anyone that disagrees with liberalism can only be racist villian.
the pulitzer price is junk. we should all sit under a tree and let hersh enlighten us. or get on our knees and kiss his ring. the media is a hate machine poising the minds of its viewers and readers. its agenda is to move this country as far left as possible. (all the way to russia). liberals dominated the news for years but its over. air america the great liberal thank tank went belly up. it doesnt sell. print and network media consistently lose money and its not my fault. instead of improving thier product they blame and attack pro americanism.
can you tell me why hersh and his kind always tell me how great europeans are? their hip, cool, the cats ass, they really know how to do it, their culture is so great, their on a skyscraper looking down on me in my pro american ignorance. why cant i be more like them? to hell with europe. i say dont bring it here. hersh and his kind should leave this country and become citizens of europe.
hersh and his kind are the same type of people that george washington had to wage war on. loyalists. american citizens who wanted a european socialist monarchy. thier weapons were muskets and cannons. today they use the media and courts. this is why you liberals call the kennedys "royalty". you gotta have it.
hersh and his kind are always telling me how great the u.n. is. you people are obsessed with giving absolute authority to the foriegn unelected officials at the u.n. if i dont want to do it im a racist zenophobe. to hell with the u.n. they are the exact opposite of what the founders wanted for this country.

  63. I love it when Blacks start spouting RepuliKKKlan propaganda!! It's just so cute! Especially with uncle Clarence types who are against minority quotas in universities. The problem is uncle thomas forgets that he wouldn't be in the supreme court in the first place if it hadn't been for the quota system than let him enroll in Yale college. On a serious note, I'm sure you realize you'd still be sitting at the back of the bus and being lynched "just for fun" if it weren't for the "liberrruuuls" you seem to dislike so much.

I really do feel sorry for american blacks. The left patronizes them as a stupid people and gives blacks free money because left wingers still suffer slavery guilt. The right wing patronizes the few blacks they get into the party because they need black votes, secretly most right wingers still view blacks as property. The only smart black I know, joined the KKKlan because he figured that was the only way to destroy the devil from within. Other black KKKlan members just suffer from the battered wife syndrome.
  64. I don't care what your skin color is, your opinions are what appears on my screen---not skin color, and I find your opinions quite boorish and klannish...

  65. The hell with Europe??????

Mr Smoke Just admit you are jealous of Europeans
  66. So essentially what you are saying is the Iraqi people are to primitive and stupid to hold accountable for their actions. Essentially they need a parent who will not spare the rod, i.e. Saddam.
  67. Pure bilge. The US army that annexed the Phillippines make the current lot look like a bunch of choirboys.
  68. Maybe that was the reason why the Filipinos fought alongside and died with the Americans against the Japanese army that annexed the Philippines. LOL!

  69. What a stupid question. You mean to tell us you actually don't know the answer? Are you a neoklown? If you are a neoklown then I can understand your stupidity, you can't help it, you were born that way.
  70. and would not take it as a real man should. right?
  71. Hear,Hear...
  72. You'd have to put up some mean SOB's to match the Army Boys I fought with on the road to Inchon. Cold as hell, and rows of murdering Chinese bastards that seemed to have a beginning , but no end. It was a real turkey shoot for those fellas, ahh the sweet memories.

    Rennick
  75. i wrote earlier that liberals live in the past. i am not angry at people or events that are long gone. no liberal can convince me that i should.

i think of sharks. how the hollywood, media hate machine made them public enemy #1. starting with the movie jaws. remember at the time beach goers would not go into the water out of fear of shark attacks. then there was an extended wave of shark hunting and killings. hollywood and the media have turned the same hate machine against me. im pro american and want the military to launch an all out assualt on terrorists. this makes me public enemy #1. the irony of it all is that they use this same machine to make celebrities, icons and give rock star status to reporters and news anchors. news anchors have less credibility than hersch. its just some jerk on tv. reading.

every year the media says there is going to be a flu pandemic with world wide mass casualties. remember the y2k bug. the media was screaming that all information on every computer would vanish on the year 2000 and civilization would collapse. they are a wing of the democratic party.

the media is negative. it seeks darkness, and locks onto it like a heat seeking missle. it only sees the bad. then exaggerates , expands, and builds on it. it is a reflection of the people who are in it. p.i.p.o.

    poison in poison out.
