Let's see him walk the walk and then he can lecture about "changing the game". Give it all away. I'm talking EVERYTHING. Not to his kids, not when he dies. Now. He's played the game, he's won the game, he thinks the game isn't fair. Put his money where his mouth is and live a more "average" lifestyle first and then he would gain a lot of respect, IMO. Liquidate everything and give it away. This is nothing new. Limousine Liberals are a dime a dozen. They want to change the system, but only AFTER they've amassed (or inherited) their fortunes. He's no different than Al Gore living in massive mansions and flying on private jets everywhere, but advocating for climate change. I have no doubt that he and Al are well meaning guys, that actually believe what they're championing, but please lead by example, rather than "do as I say, not as I do".
Really? While you're at it, why not insist he stick a fork into his eye? Because it seems you want anyone who disagrees with you and thinks there should be more fairness and justice in this world to martyr themselves. He's given more back than you ever will, both in absolute terms and proportionately. As for wanting to change the system after he amassed his fortune, he is in a better position to exert some influence now that he has name recognition and a record of accomplishment. If he had tried to do so in his youth, you would have said PTJ who? But, as noted earlier, he began putting his money where his mouth is early in his career. He deserves nothing but respect.
Like I said, I'm sure he's a great guy. I have no doubt he's very charitable. My wife and I are very charitable too, but clearly PDJ gives more in absolute terms. I know what I give in relative terms, and have no clue what he gives relative to his wealth, but that's not the point. If he wants to use his money to influence the world, and believes the game is rigged, then give it all away and live a more average (fair) lifestyle which he's asking for. I have no problem calling out hypocritical behavior when see it. Particularly from those that have a lot of influence and a wide platform. If he has the right to advocate for changes that would affect the entire country (you and I included), then he has to be ready for criticism. I can respect a socialist like Bernie Sanders a heck of a lot more than those that say one thing, and do another.
That's almost like insisting that people who endeavor to cure diseases should first compromise their own immune system. What does one have to do with the other? Sorry, but you're not staying on point. Why is anything short of all or nothing a matter of hypocrisy for you? Next time you decide to give to a homeless shelter that seeks to put people back on their feet, will you also give away your own home? You know, for consistency.
Man is this ridiculous. Another person who just doesn't get it. Your examples are twisted. Let me explain. Leading by example and all that nonsense is for people who dont have any power anyway. I dont care for al gore but he is a very smart guy and believes in something. ( i think he is very wrong, but thats not the point) Its not hypocritical at all that he flies private and spends money. I dont get your reasoning. His mission is to get the word out about his cause. Using these tools is how he does it most effectively. Would yoy suggest he walk to his events so no carbon is produced? I could go on and on ..... PTJ is the exact same underlying idea. Go back to listening to Rush and Alex Jonez. Most of us are a bit too advanced here to fall for the shtick.
To be fair, I actually think Gore is right but would make a better show of it, at least for the cause, by flying commercial.
That's a bizarre analogy, and isn't even remotely relevant. If you don't see my point, then it sounds like there's not much more to discuss. I'm sick of being lectured about fairness from people that have just stepped off of a private jet. I would simply like to see someone actually show commitment to their cause.
Please, I don't listen to Rush or Alex Jones. Let me break down the hypocrisy of Al Gore for instance. If he's so convinced there is global warming, then why not fly commercial and save all the jet fuel? If he's so convinced that man made global warming is impacting the earth, then why live in a 12,000 sq/ft home? See, I don't care that he lives in a large home or flys private, I just think it's entirely hypocritical to do those things AND still advocate for what he believes. It's just not impressive and tells me it's just one more clown who likes to tell other people how to live, but plays by different rules.
Did you guys even watch his talk? He never said he wanted to stop being rich. He never tried to give "you" advice, never took a vow of poverty. His big message is that society needs to rebalance away from its laser like focus on profit - to me a completely fair and reasonable point of view. I think he genuinely wants life to be better for average people, simple as it is. Nothing the least bit hypocritical about it.
