  2. I think they also watch for people that ask questions that might lead to good security. I've been working on security to protect intellectual property and every time I asked about things in certain areas I got shitty answers that threw me off the trail, trolled, etc... I've come to the conclusion that intellectual property probably can't be kept secret. It's not that big of a deal, just a personal bother to me because I've had intellectual property stolen twice by people I worked for. I still want to go wake them from a sound sleep some day with a baseball bat but that's just me :)

I did learn some wonderful stuff by trial and error: I once had all the right stuff installed and working. I installed stuff that would enhance window's Task Manager and allow me to see what I was connecting to... I was connected to two notorious hacking sites! Another time, I was building a linux box so I was exploring the firewall. I set up a whitelist but didn't turn the firewall on right away... after a half hour connected to the internet I revisited my whitelist and a few new DNS servers were in it!
