  3. WC Option'spro report...

Argentina: Argentina has some of the best forwards in the world of soccer, but one would have not been able to notice in their game against Nigeria. Too many Messi types, not enough Iniestas or Xavis.
Disappointing performance, but the talent is there, it's all in Maradona's hands IMO.

USA: Amazing performance. The quality of soccer played at the Premiers League in England is many, many years ahead of MLS in USA. The fact that the players remained so focused and calm was really impressive. Chances are very high we will qualify to the second round, and I have my hope that we can even higher.

England: Great players, I think the coach (and possibly the goal keeper) is (are) the weak spot. Time will tell as far as the goal keeper.

    *********

One of the most important reasons why Spain has such a great possibility of winning the cup is that a large percentage of players, something like 80-85% play in Spain all year round and almost 45-50% play for Barcelona. Of the other favorites, their national teams players are much more scattered, playing in other countries.

Germany is playing against Australia at 1430. Unfortunately there is little left of what Germany was a few years back, but we shall see...

    Bonne chance.

  7. Good thread, glad someone is taking the initiative and providing a basis for discussion. Having said that...

I would disagree with the characterization of the US effort as 'amazing'. I think 'good' would be more appropriate. Let's face it, it's overwhelmingly likely that they wouldn't have scored against England, based on the play for 89 minutes. That goal doesn't raise their performance rating for this game. Has they come out of that game with a 1-0 loss but with good play, analysts would have considered it an adequate effort.

I know Americans don't think this way, and a loss is a loss. That's obviously a good thing. Really hoping to see them go through.
