http://www.deepdotweb.com/2014/02/13/silk-road-2-hacked-bitcoins-stolen-unknown-amount/ Perfect timing for the silk road operators to make off with everyones bitcoins. Blamed it on the Malleability issue and said it was hackers.
Between 4,400 and 88,000 Bitcoins stolen. http://www.forbes.com/sites/andygre...acked-using-bitcoin-bug-all-its-funds-stolen/ No matter who stole it (hackers or the company themselves) this is why Bitcoin will never be a legitimate currency. Too easy for hackers or other evil doers (as G.W. Bush would say) to steal all your "money".
Bernie Madoff stole $150 billion dollars (20 times more than the cost of every single bitcoin in existence) Thats why the US dollar will never be a legitimate currency. Too easy for evil doers to steal all of your "money"
Free-agent safety Ed Reed reported $50,000 in cash stolen from his car Wednesday while visiting banks in Houston, the Houston Police Department confirmed Thursday morning. Reed, who played last season for the Houston Texans and New York Jets, told police he withdrew $50,000 from one bank and drove to another bank, presumably to make another transaction. The future Hall of Famer left the money on the passenger seat of his gray 2006 Audi, registered in Florida. When he returned to the car, the passenger window was smashed and the money was gone, according to the police report. Whether cash, or a virtual currency, if you're an idiot, you're an idiot.
Data mining at its finest. The biggest Ponzi scheme in world history (besides Social Security). My point was, my money is FDIC insured from theft/hackers in a bank. If I have 100k at a BTC brokerage or on my computer, a great hacker can clean it out and I'm screwed.
So because Hoi's and Peil's incredible argumentative power I have just transfered my life savings to MtGox and bought a shitload of BTC (under $460, yehhhaaa!), is this good news or bad news for me? We are going to the Moon, right? P.S.: The difference with the dollar comparison is, that any BTC product vendor can claim a hack and disappear forever, without punishment. I figured I would spell it out for ya, but I am still a Belieber.....
You do understand that when someone steals money from you in bank, we all pay for that right? You do understand that when the government decides to spend 1.6 trillion more than it takes in every year, we pay for that, right?
"Their claims: There are a few options here, none of which add up to what the SR2 operators are claiming: 1.A hacker got the bitcoin, but it was an old school private key or database break-in, not anything to do with malleability 2.The SR2 system was specifically designed to somehow automatically re-send transactions for which it could later not find the original tx hash 3.The operators of SR2 see the malleability issue as a cover for their theft Evaluation: 1: The SR2 operators seem pretty confident that it was not a regular prvky/db theft so why not take them at their word? 2: This is tantamount to a malicious implementation anyway, so if it were programmed like this, which would be beyond stupid, it should equate to the operators being guilty of the theft themselves anyway 3: The only reasonable conclusion. Their talk of honesty and integrity was and is a ruse. This operator should never be trusted again for anything."
Ummmm, what does any of that have to do with hackers stealing BTC from my computer or BTC brokerage account?
