Military Chaplains Face Arrest For Holding Mass

According to a lawyer for U.S. military priests, the federal government is expanding its intimidation campaign to include men of the cloth during the ongoing shutdown.

Archdiocese for the Military Services USA general counsel John Schlageter made the accusations in a recent opinion article, noting that an array of “priests who minister to Catholics on military bases worldwide are not permitted to work — not even to volunteer” during the interruption of some federal services.

Unbelievably, our current leaders feel that spiritual guidance for the brave men and women in uniform is a “non-essential” government program. Fortunately, they cannot curtail the intimate conversations these same faithful soldiers will have with God in private.

Schlageter pointed out, however, that chaplains could actually face jail time for daring to encourage those in the military with Biblical wisdom.

“During the shutdown,” he continued, “it is illegal for them to minister on base and they risk being arrested if they attempt to do so.”

Though it faces some serious competition, this might be the most unconscionable mandate levied by the Obama regime thus far in the government shutdown.

According to Schlageter, the real impact of this absurd instruction will be felt Sunday — unless Congress is able to reach a deal to reopen the government.

“If the shutdown continues through the weekend,” he wrote, “there will be no Catholic priest to celebrate Mass this Sunday in the chapels at some U.S. military installations where non-active-duty priests serve as government contractors.”

While some of the closures and interruptions associated with the shutdown — such as Michelle Obama’s Twitter account — are so insane they become funny, the removal of priests from military locations is utterly despicable.

In an America under the leadership of a patriot, a soldier’s spiritual life would not be fodder for political leverage. Driven by pure leftist ideology, however, Obama is perfectly comfortable attacking anyone and anything he feels will gain him a few approval points.

Much to his dismay, that tactic seems to be failing. Recent polling shows that America blames him for the shutdown far more than the principled leadership shown by the Tea Party.

A "clean resolution" is a sufficient condition to ending the shutdown. Logically it follows that other provisions, such as defunding or delaying Obamacare, are unnecessary conditions. To test this, ask, "would defunding or delaying Obamacare be a sufficient condition to ending the shutdown?" No it would not, the contents of the CR would also have to be included.

    what a logical distortion.

they teach that in Karl Marx college?

Sufficiency who cares? sufficiency is not the the same as necessary.

but for dems insisting on this unnecessary condition the entire govt is funded. (save a new program.)

the people requiring that artificial condition are therefore responsible for the shutdown of every dept of the govt ... except obamacare.

Obamacare's non funding is the only thing on the Rs.

    Lol, no, that's Logic 101.

That's right, they are different. You learn that in Logic 101.

Obamacare is already the law, like the rest of the spending on a CR.

Again, it's the law, therefore it is not an "artificial condition" (any more than the rest of the laws).

No, the other thing on the R's agenda is the CR.
