long 200 AAPL, but not got any dividends in last dividends in Feb :(

Discussion in 'Stocks' started by IBRex&me user, Mar 5, 2020.

  1. l have been long AAPL since last year. lB never seem to pay out the dividends. 'change in dividend accruals' why the 200 AAPL dividends was + 154 then deducted -154.? it is same with other dividends l 'received' in the past, also the stocks that l am short in always have a realised deduction. anyone have an idea?

Do you have an instruction in your account to re-invest the dividends?

  3. do you have to? always thought that dividends just be added onto your balance, like interest payments from a bank? so where has the dividends gone??

They might be automatically reinvesting your div payouts into your AAPL holdings.

Some places will automatically pay out the cash, while some might automatically re-invest, by default, without a specific instruction from you when you establish your account.

Ask this question in the IB section, or call them?

This is just some bookkeeping (maybe has to do with payment in lieu, etc.), if you look at later date you will see that everything is OK...

(in your picture you just take a fraction of all relevant events)

BTW the picture is just "accrual" not the actual payment. If you look under the header "dividends" you will just see the dividend. You definitely have it!!

  8. Have you contacted IB about this? What did they have to say about it?

  9. IB not known for cs, but have replied:

'Thank you for contacting Interactive Brokers’ client services team.

Please note, dividends reversals are made when a dividend for the stock is received. It offsets the entry in Accruals section and posts the received dividend into Cash. This is made to change the entry from accrual to cash for a stock's dividend.

As per your screenshot, on 6 February 2020 a dividend accrual was posted as an entry in anticipation of USD 154 and once that amount was received this entry was closed with a USD -154 on 13 Februray 2020 and the dividend was posted into cash. You can check the NAV section of the report to see an entry of USD 154 as dividend and withholding tax of -46.20. Also, the change in dividend accruals will show the reverse entry of -107.80 USD. This is for accounting purpose only since your NAV was already calculated inclusive of the dividend value prior to the posting date.

Also for short stocks, since you are the seller, you are required to pay the dividend (not receive). Hence you see a negative deduction from the account.

If you need further assistance, please let me know.

does that make sense? does anyone else have problems seeing how the dividends they were due accumulate? IB said, USD 154 which was 'posted as an entry in anticipation' but then deducted again? and if it is added in anticipation then deducted again, won't that not mean no dividends was received by myself?

  10. What IB is telling you, in friendly words, is that you are looking at the wrong section of the monthly statement. You shouldn't be looking at the "Change in Dividend Accruals" section, but at the section called "Dividends". That section shows what is actually paid out to you. There is also a section called "Withholding Tax" which shows how much tax is taken from your account.
