or How to say "F* You Taxpayers"

New to the land of high-speed pursuits is the Los Angeles Police Department’s latest addition to its fleet of vehicles: a Lamborghini Gallardo, decked out with the department’s traditional black-and-white paint and “To Protect and to Serve” written on its sides.

The LAPD is showing off what is sure to be one of its most exotic vehicles by using the hashtag #LAPDLambo on social media. The LAPD Lamborghini has its own Twitter and Instagram accounts, as well as its own website.

But don’t count on seeing the Lamborghini flying down the 101 Freeway in hot pursuit or offering criminals a luxurious ride back to the police station. Nathalie and Travis Marg of Light Source 1, Inc. donated the use of their Lamborghini to serve charitable events for the LAPD Air Support Team, the department said.

“You can run, but you can't hide. Makes you wanna join #LAPD, doesn't it?” LAPD’s Rampart Division said in an Instagram post.

A 2014 Lamborghini Gallardo starts at about $182,000. According to the LAPDLambo account on Instagram, no tax dollars were spent on the vehicle.

The LAPD Lamborghini is set to make an appearance at the Los Angeles County Air Show at Fox Field ini Lancaster on March 21-22.

  2. How is it a "F*** You"? Most likely, they got the vehicle from a criminal seizure action or civil forfeiture...

  3. Do you people not know how to read:

"Nathalie and Travis Marg of Light Source 1, Inc. donated the use of their Lamborghini to serve charitable events for the LAPD Air Support Team, the department said. "

  5. Would it be more "dignified and appropriate" if Ed Begley Jr. donated a Prius instead? :D

Makes sense. First thing I thought was "no way that will survive LA freeways", plus the whole reliability and repair costs issue with Lambos. There's nothing like good old fashioned American engineering for hardcore use: pushrod V8, front engine rear wheel drive, full size sedan. It has survived the test of time.

Back in Oregon they had some Mustang GT highway patrol cars that were used in speed traps. I remember seeing those things launch from the side of the road going after someone they got on radar. Still remember the sound of that engine as the thing took off like in a drag race.

    Cops just like fast cars.

    :D

You should see what the hemi dodge charger will do. These came long after my time, but I rode in one a friend of mine was issued. 370 horsepower, and just mean! When I did the job, I had a Chevy caprice with the LT-1 vette engine in it putting out around 275 hp, and thought I had a "hot rod." Those mustangs sounded wicked, were rated at 225hp by Ford, but in actuality, were putting out 265. If you know a cop who's issued a hemi charger, take a ride in it. Very surprising! I'd be dead if I would have had one of those back when. Lol!!!
