Japan earthquake forces shutdown of nuclear plants

  1. LOS ANGELES (MarketWatch) -- Japan's Tuesday morning earthquake prompted an emergency shutdown of two nuclear reactors in Shizuoka prefecture, southwest of Tokyo, the Kyodo news agency reported. It cited Chubu Electric Power Co. as saying operations at the facilities were suspended automatically, and the radioactive level at one of the reactors "temporarily went up, although there was no radioactive leakage."
