No way to tell. The liability is just what IB owes its customers.

The difference between balances in the reports just means IB has more money held for its customers. This could be due to new customers opening accounts, existing customers adding money to their accounts, and\or a growth in customers equity.

In fact, it is possible, but very unlikely the last quarter, that customers actually lost money between quarters but the new accounts, added deposits, etc., concealed their loss.

When did they combine the securities and futures accounts into one? I remember having several accounts for different currencies in 1999.

growth. keep in mind we grew largely by word of mouth with very little advertising. also, the nominal amounts over the periods you mention is much less than the numbers now.

IB is now a big fish. Like other large firms, IB now puts quite a bit of advertisements. However, unlike Etrade's or Scotttrade's advertisements, IB's TV advertisement is actually cool. (I am talking about the one with the robot Smart router flailing its arms very fast to route the orders :).)

  9. 2.4 bil in assets?

    Hardly.

Merrill has 1 trillion + in assets.

  10. def,

may you disclose the number of customers or accounts IB has?
