So I am fairly interested in opening an account at IB to trade on margin. However, the margin age requirement is 21 and im only 19. Ive been trading a lot with RobinHood and feel that I would be capable of trading on margin. Do you think I could get away with lieing about my age? Has anyone ever tried and had success/failure?

I haven't ever opened up a IB account, only account I've ever opened with is my bank. I would assume IB would ask for photo ID or some sort of proof of identification. I'm assuming you can't just make up a name or age or IB be the go to place to launder cash. Between the government and SEC, they like to know whose trading what.

Just use a different broker... Or give IB a call....they may make an exception.

  5. I wanted to move to IB so I could do futures when I was 19. I had to wait until 21 also. Just use another broker then you can worry with IB later on.
