I quit smoking, and, believe it or not........

  1. I smoked my first cigarette when I was 13. The dumbest thing I've ever done in my life. But in the 1950's everybody smoked. Anyway, I smoked for 27 years, going through 3 packs a day for the last few years before I quit. I had tried to quit 1000 times before I heard at the age of 39 that if you quit by 40, your body still has the ability to recover to near that of someone who has never smoked. So on my 40th birthday I succeeded in quitting. The smartest thing I've ever done!
Now, during my smoking days I would wake up with a headache at least twice a week that required taking Bufferin a few times throughout the day. And once every two weeks I would get the Mother of All Headaches which all the Bufferin in the world couldn't suppress. I was miserably all the way to bedtime.
However, from the very day I quit smoking, and until today, almost 32 years later, I have not had even one single headache!! Not one! True , there are people who have never smoked who get headaches. But I just hope my experience helps some smokers to consider the benefits of quitting, be it headaches or whatever.

  2. I quit smoking at age 33, better than three decades ago. Can't say I've never had a headache. Nonetheless it was a very good decision to give up that nasty habit.

Smoking is horrible. I remember when the Corporations were telling us it was good for us. Now they do the same with vaccinations, meds, etc...

On smoggy days when I smoked I felt absolutely ill. Haven't smoked in about 35 years and it's not missed for a moment. I was at a casino recently, sitting between two chainsmokers and I got dizzy and nauseous after awhile.

My GF has COPD, it's not funny... Anybody that wants to quit should fill up a backpack with food and go hiking for a few weeks where there just aren't any tobacco products. Or get on a sailboat and hit the deep blue for a few weeks, maybe there are jails that don't allow smoking even... when i quit, every time I wanted a smoke I cycled to a park and ran a few laps. I did go nuts though, I recall some guy was looking at me, he's a friendly productive person obviously, I said "wtf are you looking at!" like some psycho in a jail, still can't believe i did that... I was only that messed up for about two days and never looked back really.

I've never been an avid smoker - I smoked like one pack per week, but still, once I stopped I felt infinitely better. I wish I hadn't started at all.

I gave up smoking when I went to hospital. The smokers had to smoke outside ! Damn cold in mid winter in your jimjams.
Walter Raleigh brought back that nasty habit from his travels.

  6. And then there's the $100,000 that I saved by quitting, which would have gone up in smoke!!

  8. Good for you! Before I quit I could run 30 minutes at best. But after I got all that stuff out of my lungs, could run for hours and hours.

    Keep it up!!
