Huawei's CFO arrested in Canada, faces extradition to United States

    If you recall:
Trump says he'll help Chinese company that violated U.S. sanctions

In retrospect....could be the dems throwing a wrench into Trump's China negotiations. Or they are actually doing their jobs and following the law:

    What could be behind it?

A spokesman for the US justice department in the Eastern District of New York - which Huawei said had brought the charges - declined to comment.

    ^^Who runs that precinct?

US media have reported that Huawei is under investigation for potential violations of US sanctions against Iran.

One report in the New York Times said the US commerce and treasury departments had subpoenaed the firm over suspected violation of sanctions against both Iran and North Korea.

US lawmakers have repeatedly accused the company of being a threat to US national security, arguing that its technology could be used for spying by the Chinese government.

Reacting to the arrest, US Senator Ben Sasse told Associated Press that China was aggressively engaged in undermining US national security interests, often "using private sector entities".

Arrest of Huawei CFO shows 'the gloves are now fully off,' says Eurasia Group

    • The arrest of Huawei's global chief financial officer in Canada, reportedly related to the violation of U.S. sanctions, will affect trade negotiations between Washington and Beijing, according to risk consultancy Eurasia Group.
    • Canada's Department of Justice said on Wednesday the country arrested Meng Wanzhou in Vancouver, where she is facing extradition to the U.S.
    • U.S. authorities have been probing Huawei, one of the world's largest makers of telecommunications network equipment, since at least 2016 for allegedly shipping U.S.-origin products to Iran and other countries in violation of U.S. export and sanctions laws, sources told Reuters in April.

This is going to cause a tremendous diplomatic rift. I expect China will retaliate by having American business leaders arrested.

They've had her since the 1st. I expect that's why they were so tight lipped about trade. If Trump is pulling this crap to strong arm them into compliance... Holy hell

  8. If I recall correctly, Huawei is banned in Australia and New Zealand so their big bucks do not always get them where they want to go, nor it just a matter of Trump being a pisspot on trade. They have problems elsewhere too.

Although we know how the issue must be framed.

I wouldn’t be too quick with Trump is taking Chinese business leaders as hostages in his trade war yet.

We still don’t really know what exactly is going with this.

I've stopped being surprised by the guy. I linked an article where she's basically saying to be fast and loose with regulation so the DOJ may have something..... Though Huawei hasn't been as daring as ZTE and Trump ran interference for those guys.

This lady is basically royalty, Huawei is highly regarded (think Apple) and she's the next in line to run that shop.
