  2. Or you can just send them a map with the areas in the world not prone to hurricanes or typhoons highlighted, and tell them to move there!

Do the same to the coastal residents of North Carolina, South Carolina, and Georgia as well as Galveston, TX, New Orleans, Biloxi, MS, Mobile, AL, and the entire state of Florida.

We know full well hurricanes are going to hit again...and again...and again...and again...

Tax money should no longer be spent rebuilding homes and businesses in coastal areas prone to hurricane damage.

They know the risk. And since they know, they should bear the entire financial risk. NO federal/state bailouts Insurance priced specifically for hurricane risk, so the risk is borne solely by all homes within 50 miles of the Caribbean and Atlantic, not spread across all homeowner policies in the US...

At some point, somebody needs to stand up and say, "Stop rewarding stupidity!".

gwb-trading you're a good man. And I mean that. But I'm personally not sending another god damn dime to anyone but the tea party, the wounded warriors project and the likes of such. I think you probably know me well enough that I don't need to explain why.

    Let me give my take...

I support helping my community through voluntary giving and service. I also support giving to appropriate charity organizations with global reach when huge disasters occur outside the U.S.

I will state that most of my charity giving is focused on the local organizations. I prefer to have my help provide a direct impact in my home community.

I would rather see people give voluntarily than have the government extract money via taxation to drive inefficient long-term social programs (e.g. "the war on poverty") - however I support the government having a role in short-term disaster relief.

I posted this thread because if people want to provide donations to help the Haiyan survivors then I would like them to avoid 'charities' which are frauds and give to legitimate organizations with the global reach that can aid the victims.
