How I'm Trading the Volatility: Live trades (Jan)

Discussion in 'ETFs' started by KCalhoun, Oct 14, 2020.

  1. THATS why i dont trade TZA/+ its longx 3 ETF/i simply dont like the long term trend of those/LOL. May do DXD again,depending.
    TECS + sqqq/spxs tend to trend better for me; but if i did not ever trade TECL/tqqq/spxl/upro /i may not trade those inverse @ all.
    And if upro/spxl/tecl do not trend better than this year i may never trade those AGAIN.Trend=ok but drawdown deeper than i figured......................................
    BUT if i was a real short term trader mostly i may do tza+ its 3x long etf more.

    Ironically, it came to my attention that the worst drag on my performance was a 2x gold/silver miner etf that I held onto far too long twice. In fact, I've made considerable money since March on gold/silver miners ( including several triples ), and even in the down cycles in Gold the mining stocks I've held have been easier to manage ( except for Kinross last two months; there is no sense to it's current valuation ). Some of these etfs just aren't being managed well by the companies who sell them. My mistake for not cutting the positions quicker my yearly performance would be huge without those two miner etf positions.

    In today's market, the best plays are hot stocks and sectors with a quick leash if things go sour on the trend. I've trimmed some of my mining positions instead I'm temporarily heavy on energy hoping for a continued breakout. If US stimulus hits, it may boost both mining and energy short term. So I'm in both willing to hold decent mining exposure for a year at current prices. Some miners didn't sell off much but the larger miners with great cash flow are inexplicably cheap these days. It's an opportunity for investors with a 1-2 year time range.

    If it all flips on it's head again I will shift some energy exposure back to mining or cash. Don't really need more mining exposure unless a strong move appears.

    DGP has a good uptrend/ytd/except the hi /was about JULY/so i say by/not buy\ that one now.
    LBJ stealing the silver ,so to speak, was crooked/in coins.But its made the silver/SLN market interesting.
    Strange year, when i got my change back from the female printer, a 3 year chart, tech ETF[x3]; one coin was a silver quarter
    .Good tech ETFs uptrends/double/triple;

    Yeah, SDOW best breakout pattern earlier; SQQQ strong though pullback this last hour.

    I tightened up trailing stops on all non ETF stock swing positions like CCL ACB etc

    as usual, the most important thing is where the market closes today relative to Friday's close. If it's going to close lower, then I will scale up into overnight inverse positions
