%% THAT female asset manager on the radio uses a 30 day moving average. Not sure 3 minutes is enough time . 30 weeks may give less noise + less signals+ miss months of the move; but sometimes a 50 week ma nails it, so it varies. SPY is not a buy on 30 week ma , nor is 30week ma rising
30 Day moving average is fine. Depends on your tastes and preferences. Personally I like the price to be above the 10 Days, Weeks and Months. This translate into the 10, 50 and 200 sma on the daily. Or the 10 and the 40 sma on the weekly. "Nothing good never happens below the 200 sma" Of course one can make money on the buy side below the moving averages. EDIT Moving average parameters isn't going to make or break your way as a trader, I prefer to trade based on price action. MAs are just for filtering. I'd rather buy shitty to no fundamentals above a rising 30 week sma. Than to buy real good fundamentals below a declining 30 week sma.
%% IBD charts sometimes uses 40 week moving average; but with 55 , 50/200+30 ma sometimes, PSAR, Don Channels................................I have gotten chart$ too crowded sometimes. And 50dma on blue, red or green volume. Our friends @ WSJ need to go back to red + green candle charts; black + grey candle charts are a terrible way to save money.
Yup ... IBD use the 40 weeks. 30 ... 40 ... 50 is mostly the same. Ahaha I can't keep up with messy charts neither, 3 moving averages is way too much for my tastes. That's why monthly charts are the best ! Volume, 10 SMA and price action. Red Green is long gone O'Neil was only using the 10 on the weekly. But Weinstein came with the 30 weeks. Many use the 10, 30 on the weekly. Personally I use the 40 as it mimic better the 10 months.
