To cheer the occasion, residents of the private, 216-acre isle are throwing a Roaring Twenties-themed gala on Dec. 10, complete with flappers, free-flowing Champagne, a seven-piece band and ritzy sponsorship from Bentley, Azimut Benetti Group, Graff and VistaJet. “This is a pivotal moment in the rich history of Fisher Island, and we are delighted to celebrate it,” says Bernard Lackner, president and CEO of Fisher Island. Miami’s most exclusive retreat got its start in 1919, when racing enthusiast and developer Carl Fisher purchased land recovered from the southernmost point of Miami Beach. Six years later, Fisher traded his island to William Kissam Vanderbilt II for his steam yacht, “Eagle.” Vanderbilt then built a $1.5 million Mediterranean-style mansion with guest homes, tennis courts and swimming pools — used today as the island’s club house, where an equity membership runs $250,000. But the best way to join the community is to pick up one of its roughly 1,000 condos. The 6,268-square-foot, townhouse-style 7412 Fisher Island, one of the isle’s most luxurious listings, is on the market for $14 million and features five bedrooms, six full bathrooms and private beach access. Across the island, a unit at 5012 Fisher Island is asking just under $8.5 million. The 6,462-square-foot, six-bedroom, six-full-bathroom home is newly renovated and boasts a private entrance from the terrace to the building’s pool. Both apartments are represented by Elena Bluntzer of Sotheby’s International Realty. Happy birthday, indeed. https://nypost.com/2019/12/05/fisher-island-the-wealthiest-zip-code-in-the-us-turns-100/
