Having trouble deciding on a broker??

Discussion in 'Retail Brokers' started by Fatsweatybulldog, Feb 3, 2019.

  1. Good morning. I'm having trouble deciding which broker to use. I will be trading often and in larger share sizes. I'm a MAC user but wouldn't be opposed to using parallels on the MAC to run windows if need be. However, I want to make sure I get the fastest execution possible and speed is very important to me. Can you guys let me know what brokers you prefer and some of the advantages and disadvantages of the brokers you've used in the past? Am I over thinking the importance of the broker? I've traded with Etrade for years and want to try another broker. I've downloaded TWS and Think Or Swim platforms. Basically, I'm obsessing on making sure I have the best platform and want to get other opinions.

  4. I used to use interactive brokers for shares, very good service and commissions

  5. Thanks for the info.
What would be the advantages of using another platform rather then the one IB provides? The TWS platform seems fast and intuitive. Would another platform be faster with execution? My Mac runs the TWS platform great.

If you are happy with IB, why are you asking?

  7. Thanks again for the replies. I guess I’m asking because there are so many products offering the “best”, services and wanted to to see what actual traders are using. I think I get dragged into the pigeon hole of internet sales and advertising. It’s funny because when one of my sons asks for a new bat I always remind them it’s about the swing not the bat...and I have trouble following my own advice.

How does E-Trade per ticket cost compare to IB per share costs for your trading?

I'd say Lightspeed Trader is worth looking at. Even though we have a MAC version, it is old and we are looking to update it this quarter. I would only use our WIN OS version. We pride ourselves on speed of execution, choice of routing and offer both per share or per trade commission rates. Email me directly if you want to chat this week.
