Every government....whether it be a city, a state, or a country will be pressing for higher taxes....

This is only a natural reaction....

The fact is that if the government seeks to be more healthy, it must be dramatically downsized....

Individuals must see the gains first before government....

Or government will never get to where it wishes to go....

Perhaps one should give this a name....

    SOCIALISM

  2. ___________ (fill in the blank) Leaders Hint at Tax Increases for Wealthy

    --------

I love it. Tax the wealthy, meanwhile throw in a few tax increases for cigarettes, obeseity, gym memberships, property, library, schools, road tolls and whatever else that moves and we have a hell of a good system for raising taxes on poor people while preaching to tax the rich.

Many people don't have a pension now - nobody is going to get elected sayong if you lost your retirement you will just have to live in the street. Promising benefits is what will win elections now.

    ..................................................................................

This is a very sad state of affairs....

Much like a pauper having more children....

    ...................................................................................

    The whole structure weakens....

    This is the Haiti dilemma....
    ....................................................................................

This is the moment where humanity faces some of its toughest dilemmas....

Cutting down more orchard trees for firewood will not end well....

  5. Doesn't it seem like the rest of the world just echoes whatever we do?

Remember the short sale ban, then every other exchange in the world rushed to do the same thing.

We say we need a stimulus package, now everybody in Europe is saying they need one to.

Tax the rich, bank bailouts... I could go on and on.

    How gay.

And in this case the parents never learned....

The US is far younger than most other countries....

Very telling about humanity in general....

I also think this is very sad, people who have worked all their lives have lost much of that from going along with the policies of people like Greenspan and Gordon Brown. It is only natural that they will turn to any Government that offers to extend help to them.

I was merely commenting on the realpolitik of elections, rather than taking a stance or criticising or implying anything.

    Agree

Hopefully the orchard is big enough....

Each party will be trying to "out promise" the other, so it's unlikely any of this shift will be reversed until total socio-economic collapse.

It's so much easier to become more Socialistic that to instigate the kind of change needed.

Within 10 years we will have settled into a lower economic (but greater Socialistic) plateau.

Then it will be just a matter of time until Gummints "run out of other people's money" to spend.

  10. The best real time example....

    Venezuela

Just look at the recent history....

Lopped three 000's off the currency....

    Has taken over....

    oil
    cement
    agricultural land
    now this week ...rice
    some banking
    and others

The economy has dropped like a stone....and has killed off any future interest from capitalistic companies....

There are shortages of basic food items on the shelves....

So since when does a government have ready made experts that are better managers in various fields ?

The answer is the same in any economy....

    ....................................................................................

The tax game is the biggest game in town in many developing countries....If one has an ID card from the recent political winner....they might just be lucky enough to get a job....

And hopefully the IMF, World Bank....will be around to help rollover their expanding debts....

    No exceptions....
