    Ghosn rights

Japan violated Carlos Ghosn's rights by arresting him arbitrarily and holding him under abusive conditions, a U.N. panel has concluded. The former Renault-Nissan chief was arrested four times in 2018 and 2019 over alleged financial crimes, and according to the Working Group on Arbitrary Detention he did not enjoy the presumption of innocence that Japan is supposed to provide under international law. But his rescuer has been extradited by the US to Japan to stand trial.

  4. It does not surprise me that this investigative panel found evidence of "forced self-incrimination" in this case. The entire Japanese legal system relies on this.
The Japanese judicial system is not up to par with Europe or the US, and the Japanese people don't seem to care. It is something that foreigners should be very well aware of before they make the choice to life and work in Japan.
