You must have seen the guy on the table next to me just before you wrote this post. The way this older guy was listening to FOX news on his conputer reminded me of someone desperately in need of a fix. A nice soothing fix so he can feel right in the world again. More disturbingly was an incident at a local restaurant recently. I ordered food for pickup and when I arrived at the restaurant, I noticed a muscular Black man with dreadlocks off to the side, apparently waiting for his order. My order was ready and I started to leave. As I was starting out the second door, I saw the Black man was also leaving with his order in hand. I held the door for him and he said in a tone of annoyance and confusion that he had been waiting in the restaurant for a long time and they had the order at the checkout the whole time he was there. He then hopped on his motorcycle and left. Why did the young, White women behind the counter do this? Was it some sort of racist thing in an attempt to make a point that had political and or racial undertones? Or was it simply fear based on recent events? When I walked in, perhaps the women felt the “dangerous” Black man would less likely to try something with another man there. My concern is interactions of this sort may be taking place all over the country now. In other words, are we in the process of losing the Civil Rights progress from Dr. Martin Luther King, jr. days and the increase in Black confidence during Obama Presidency because of Radicals in BLM? I have recently read stories of people looking to leave the cities and live in suburbs they feel safer in or even rural locations. What happens to economic opportunities for Blacks in urban areas as businesses, along with their owners leave their community? Unemploymemt dropped to record lows under Obama and continued to improve under Trump, until Coronavirus hit, suggesting strong minority employment was a goal for both administrations. We need our top politicians, on both sides, to show some leadership on this issue, and demand the radical element of BLM to stand down. Nancy, Chuck, Joe, Kamala, Trump, Pence, and Barr should share a stage and in one voice let the rioters know there will be no more tolerance for violence, destruction, and intimidation. They will be prosecuted no matter what town they are in for the crimes they commit. At the same time, our politicians should in one voice announce solid reforms on police training and conduct. Further, our media should be running stories how the damage from the riots are not likely to be quickly be repaired until we come together as a nation. Anything less is not representative and social justice in the United States will likely continue to devolve. As Dr. Martin Luther King, jr. said: “We may have come on different ships, but we are in the same boat now”.
That's the 2nd post in a couple of days that is short circuiting so many ideas, not even wrong maybe in others (or I'm mentally blocked) .. I need more time to think. In ways I'm jealous, I'd love to be driving about the US nowadays seeing what's going on. I'll say this about the wartorn places I have lived in, it was attention grabbing watching the forces line up. I promised the wife I would watch Melancholia with her. Back in a bit.
