practical 'exams' and defending the thesis are both in widespread use worldwide.
separate the doers and makers from the bureaucrats and takers.
skool in america is a babysitting jobs program in far too many cases.

  4. Of course, Elon says "I don't care about your degree". At the same time both Tesla and Space X are among the biggest employers for high end PhDs in technical fields.

Some time ago, I went a university seminar in economics (don't recall by whom, sadly) and he said something along the lines of "In 1905, 2% of American youths got a college education. In 2015, over 35% of Americans have a college degree, but the figure from 1905 still stands".

Whenever people talk about the American education, they rarely distinguish between a degree from University of California, Berkeley and a degree from Berkeley College. If you go to a top school, pretty much any degree from such a place guarantees employment and success later in life. If you go to a shit school, well, it's an implicit or even explicit scam. There is a small gray zone between "top" and "shit" but it's usually pretty easy to spot the transition.

This is interesting topic as I am preparing to send kids to college. I assumed that the difference between top schools and the rest is not so much education as your future network. Rich send their kids to good schools because they can afford it and the kids, once out, use parents’ connections to get to high places faster.
I don’t know, so this is a question not a statement. Is there difference in actual education?

Do that and see what type of jobs you can get after college.

If you are in the US, you might have another shot. Do that in Asia (China, Taiwan, Japan, Hong Kong, Singapore, Korea...) or Europe and you will not get a job.

Sad but true. The Musk, Zuckerberg, Gates can say that but for every Musk there are millions of college dropouts, especially minority who are struggling. For us peasants, a good grade and a degree is still the ticket to a decent future.

Gates was a college drop-out, too.

    Secondary school is bunk.

High probability that he raises really messed up kids. He is messed up himself.

With so much money and privilege, you want to go the opposite way and put them in public school. Use your money/power to buy time and impart some family values.
