Americaâs 50 Worst Charities Exposed http://articles.mercola.com/sites/a...=email&utm_content=art1&utm_campaign=20130807 For example: According to CNN: âIn the past decade alone, Kids Wish has channeled nearly $110 million donated for sick children to its corporate solicitors. An additional $4.8 million has gone to pay the charity's founder and his own consulting firms. No charity in the nation has siphoned more money away from the needy over a longer period of time.â
this is why i'm not donating anything to anyone. cause most of it is just scam. all those calls from various 'police' organizations asking for the money or firefighters. fuck that. majority of the money goes to the marketing company, that makes those calls. the only way i see it work-direct help, direct donation(and come back to me with the receipt of services you provided). and boys from this link that your posted should be jailed. in this country find a reason to put someone behind the bars is a piece of cake. but one needs the balls to do that. cause those fucks not only pocketing the donations money, they do even more harm,by destroying the trust in such organizations. nice..
I have donated to large well known charities for decades each month. Let them sort out the true need. The reason I chose a handful of researched ones and rejected all the others, particularly the emotional ones on TV is a result of a few true stories. Where I live, we do get blowing snow and bitter cold (-30). I was standing inside near a window, watching a fellow huddling in a blanket with pictures of kids, a plastic bucket and a sign "please help me feed my kids". The economy was tough and the kids were young and desperate looking. I felt awful. Then the fellow removed the blanket to get his smokes for a minute. He was native. The children were white. That was the reason for the blanket - effect and those were not his kids. One wheelchair regular on the street corner was prosecuted after a photo of him loading his wheelchair in his new car was plastered on the front page. He said he was sorry. A couple of decades ago, I saw an elderly man on a street corner begging (again a sign laid off can't get work). He was 60 plus. I used to wave at him regularly as I went by his street corner. He was pleasant and didn't beg people, just smiled and put his bucket out. A few months later, I realized that he was commuting on the same train as I every single day. How bad off could he be, if he commutes daily just like me I wondered? I am not cynical, I am a power giver on the request of anonymity for the larger ones and some well chosen ones. I can't save the world, just a piece of it. And I don't give for my own ego's feelings other than the feeling that I am grateful for what I have.
I was on the NYC subway and heard a guy ask for money to get a security guard training certificate. People gave him money. Then one guy said loudly, "I saw you last week and you claimed you were going to get a commercial driver's license." The guy was quick, "It was my twin brother you saw!"
If you can help, the world needs your help. Don't generalize because of a few bad apples. There are perfectly good honest charities out there. Don't use this list as an excuse to be selfish but do your research before you had in a check.
An additional $4.8 million has gone to pay the charity's founder and his own consulting firms. ----------------- come on, people need money. it's not illegal if you read the fine print. people sell shoes for $400 and they cost $40 to make, and that is totally fine. i'm sure people who work with the roman catholic church have lots of money. and gov't employees make tons from tax payers and don't do much. etc... on a more serious note, I give to one charity that I've known for over 10-years and did enough due diligence. and I have given money to poor women with kids, then found out later the kids were drugged to not cry. that is crazy. it's all crazy.... give, and god will reward you later. and punish these millionaires.
. if the 4.8M was the end of story the numbers would be quite reasonable. it is the 110M paid to corporate solicitors which is an obscenity. the right numbers to look at are Percentage Spent on Direct Cash Aid. these numbers forKids wish are disgusting. click on the link which nitro thoughtfully provided to get the true performance of various charities. (undoubtedly there was also double dipping between payments to the corporate solicitors and to the consulting firms)
why would anyone give to charity?!?! Giving money direct to needy of your choice is much more fun and you know they get it 100%.
This is a good point and ideally would be a good way to go. To be fair though there are a number of charities that have large administrative and organizational expenses. Often times people would rather give to groups that have a large % of donations go towards programs supporting the stated mission, when money is just as appreciated/necessary for other expenses. Check out CharityNavigator.org and Guidestar.org. These are good organizations that can help evaluate the quality of a non-profit. Justgive.org is a useful site for actually donating. HTH.
