I would like to get a server to host R Trader Pro platform for a tests on real capital run with some automated trading algorithm. It's not a high frequency, but i want it to be make sure I am located close and work fast. Anyone has experience with hosting providers that serve the area, connectivity options etc. I obviously will host a windows box for now. Thanks
You know what, your right. The 4th hop on the traceroute is 350cermak. Strange, since I pinged the hostname. Anyway, that was a stupid post on my part. Speedy Trading Servers is what many have recommended for traders.
Thanks, let me google Speedy Trading servers, their site does not seem to have support phone #, so if something happen you know what to expect)) They also do not say what DC are they in... just throw most great and close one ) I like youtube video they got connecting to my VPS, but i think trading via remote desktop app of Windows is a bad idea ) any other decent hosters to look up? Yes, gotta then find out what IP does R Trader go to with APM broker and run traceroutes to see how far and latency... I would need to check with the broker first, where their servers are though.
Rtrader actually has their own connection routes to the exchanges. Your concern is mostly how fast the connection is between Speedy and Rithmics servers which should be really fast for non-HFT. That is their bread and butter. Tell me if you find a non-trading (cheap) VPS provider who has comparable ping times. I'm not really picky. I just need the 24/7 convenience.
Thanks, thats what I figured. I do not necessary have to have Chicago location at the moment. Need to find out what IPs are being used by APM for example who I have account with R Trader with for now.
Please bear in mind that the broker connection is the least time critical part of the futures trade cycle. Exchange to FCM has many hoops and hurdles that go way back. It is mostly position reporting and margin calcs. I think Dorman still has EOD batch reporting in it's process. Your trade goes thru VPS(Rtrader)===>Rithmic===>Exchange===>AMP====>Rithmic====>VPS(Rtrader)
What do you mean by Dorman still has EOD ....? What part of the connection do you consider to be most important? My understanding is if I use APMfutures for example at the moment then I need to find out what IP addresses the communication with the part that's responsible for order executing and quotes are..?
Dorman(Ninjatrader) gives you a position/margin report at the end of the day. It is the industry standard for that one page e mail. Not everyone has real time reports via portal. VPS=====> Rithmic then me ===>VPS. If I go with Speedy, then it's just me ===> VPS. It just dawned on me, I can start calling these cheap VPS providers and start asking for screenshots of ping times and traceroutes. Of course, with real money on the line, you would want a specialist with guarantees.
