  1. Is that me in the title bar? Who knows?! As for the previous post guessing at me being Scots. Hmm, maybe. Let's run down the possibilities just for fun(!):
    1. I really am John Lydon aka Johnhy Rotten, former lead singer of the Sex Pistols. Not much success after 'Never Mind the Bollocks' came out, so I became a succesful futures trader instead i.e. English with Irish background
    2. I am working class Brit (English) with a chip on his shoulder. The middle class English would never behave this way.
    3. I'm Australian. The British are too polite to behave this way. But Australians can be brash & obnoxious. They also have similar expressions to the English. And many of them hate the monarchy.
    4. I'm New Zealand - language similarities for sure, but maybe less plausible - they're gentler than the Aussies. Any clues for an exception?
    5. I'm Canadian. But too many old English expressions - probably not. Clues for an exception?
    6. I'm Scottish. Maybe even middle class. After all, he seems to be fairly bright, and they can be a feisty lot up there. It's all the cold weather and wearing kilts.
    6. I'm Dutch or German but I grew up in the US (explains both the fluency in English and the obnoxiousness). Jan (title bar) is my real name - I made a mistake overlooking that. When you register with Paypal to buy a product like Sierrachart, how do you avoid giving your real name? Hmmm. Then again, he uses an awful lot of Brit-like expressions for a yankified German or Dutch ...??

Hang on a minute, what time zones was he originally posting? Isn't continental Europe one hour different than the UK. Ah shit, he's got me flummuxed. I got it: Australian living in France. No wait: Scots living in England just offsets his charts one hour to confuse us. No wait: German with a British wife - explains the title bar, the time zone and Brit familiarity. No wait, he's leading us ...it really is New Zealand! No wait: SHE'S a yank from Brooklyn who lives overseas and is messing with her fellow countrymen big-time.

You pays your money, you takes your choice!
In the meantime, God save the Queen!

    Yours,
    Johnny

Johnny I wanted to say this on your other thread. Fuck the queen. I really mean it Fuck the queen.

Ok now a question. You are using Ninja Trader. If you place trades and stops do you lose your stops if your internet connection disconnects for some reason. Last week ( friday) was using bracket trader and had to go somewhere. Connection crashed and I lost a bundle.

  3. There's only one thing I ask of the moderators. Do NOT censor my arse on this site, even when I abuse the hell out of you and/or other establishment types (ask Moderator Magna!). I believe I've earned the right to take a large shite on some heads around here. The least you can do is let me have some fun around town :p

On the discretion question. Absolutely pay attention to when the big reports are coming out - but not too much otherwise you risk letting good trades go. I guess I have a kind of instinct that hates entering a trade at 09:57 EST. I like to enter at least 10 mins before a possible report so that it's hopefully in the green before the report comes out. But I don't pay any attention to so-called "major support". Those phrases are used by journalists and web site merchants. It's just bullshit crap ...but even if it were true, when we break that support, my trade will make even more money :)

Hard as this may be to believe - I don't even have a Daily bar chart in my software. I took everything out except for four little 5 min charts (the NQ is on my second monitor but I rarely look at it).

Talking of monitors, when you make some money, go and treat yourself to a pair of Samsung 191T LCD monitors, coupled with the new Matrox P650 dual digital video card (you don't need the P750 unless you also want a TV hookup which is just a bloody distraction). These monitors are absolutely gorgeous and Matrox offers the best (crystal clear) 2D graphics out there. As you know, a lot of what I do is "visual assessment" and these are the best tools available. Keep your whizzbang 3D video card for your 'playtime' PC :)

Keep up the good work JR, you've made a great contribution to the board. Who knows, you might slowly be acquiring guru status (heaven forbid) with all the attendant groupies. But I suspect you won't allow either of those situations to occur. :)

  6. Well she's a bit old for my taste - so I'll pass on that if you don't mind :D

If you have an account with IB then regardless of whether you use NinjaTrader, Bracket Trader or just IB's own order capabilities, your orders should ALWAYS be colour green in TWS. If not, then you fucked up. When green, your order is native on the exchange. It doesn't matter if your PC blows up, NinjaTrader or TWS all disconnect - you will still be executed.

Within a split second of entry being filled, you should expect to see two green orders in TWS (one for the stop-loss one for the profit target). If NT ever fell over in that split second, you can always manage the orders in TWS itself.

The only exception to the colour green rule are my stop-limit entries for DAX & ESTX50 (see first thread). I feel that a non-native order for the Entry is safe because the worst that happens is that you don't get the trade.

But your stop-loss order and your profit order should ALWAYS be colour green. ALWAYS, ALWAYS, ALWAYS! Occasionally you see an IB customer complain their their stop wasn't executed. That's because they were using a plain stop (colour blue) held on IB's servers and not a native stop-limit order. So, they fucked up by using the wrong order!

In short, have TWS and NT next to each other, to check all is OK with your orders. I've been using NT since Beta 2 and occasionally hit a bug when it lost control of my orders - but I just went to TWS and managed them from there. NT is now pretty solid and I have the benefit of being on the developer's "preferred" list. I get releases not yet available to the public and he listens to my suggestions more than most :) He hadn't even programmed in settings for Eurex til I came along. Can you even imagine

ninjatrader's not bad. I've been playing with it for a couple days using the demo account. maybe next week I'll try it live.

Thanks for planting the idea about trading DAX, I've had tunnel vision all this time trading ES/YM/NQ. We've had some decent hits on it this week. I enjoy trading the early morning hours here(East Coast). From watching the volume I'm assuming they don't rollover DAX as they do ES/NQ. When does it typically start to favor the Sept? I'm currently tracking both but still executing June.

This thread has been quite enjoyable so far.. well done Johnny.

Thanks Johnny. Next it'll be Johnny Be Good.

Have to really check that, I was sure I had settings right on TWS and BT but must have been screwed up. It sucks when little things bring big losses.

  9. Holy shit - Magna groupie boy is being nice! It must be time for me to fuck off! For those who don't know Magna ...allow me the honour of introducing him:

Magna is one of Jack Hershey's groupies. Not chief lieutenant No.1 groupie but still. For those of you not yet familiar with Jack, first I say: lucky you. Then I'll tell you that he is a Guru of massive proportion. He talks in tongues and you can't understand a bloody word he says. He has about 6-7 big time wanker groupies that will harass anyone who dares challenge their hero. My half-borther Simtrader met Jack and his groupies a while back and had a few "words" with them all. It was a lot of fun I can tell you :p

Hence my surprise to see one come back here. Still, I'm such a warm and forgiving person that I'll let him stay! On parole so to speak. Actually, I'm getting so much luuuuuvvv on this thread, that I've had to pop over to a couple of other threads today to get my kicks! I think I upset a certain Frenchman which is always fun :D

  10. Thanks Johnny for the screenshot info and for the breakout bar
stop info earlier... By the way, since you like the Sex Pistols and
you keep saying "God save the Queen", doesn't that make you
English? Plus the Yanks in the USA thing...
