From the description of Snow Crash (1992) by Neal Stephenson:

" Hyperinflation encouraged people to use electronic currency which is exchanged in encrypted online transactions and is hence untaxable. "

This is on my reading list.

    Cryptonomicon (1999) also by Stephenson:

"who employ cryptologic, telecom, and computer technology to build an underground data haven in the fictional Sultanate of Kinakuta. Their goal is to facilitate anonymous Internet banking using electronic money and (later) digital gold currency, "

Digital Fortress (1998) by Dan Brown (of The DaVinci Code fame):

"The book explores the theme of government surveillance of electronically stored information on the private lives of citizens, and the possible civil liberties and ethical implications of using such technology."

Crypto, black mail, dead man's switch are all in this book, very much describing what came 10+ years later with bitcoin. I liked it a lot. Even Edward Snowden's story is in the book, 15 years before it happened.

Any other books from the previous century describing cryptos?

  2. Many things that appear in the present were somehow discribed by the science fiction writers before.I wonder if there`s some kind of almanac in wich all described till the final day.

  3. I worked with a dot com tech company that was founded in part because of the influence Snow Crash had on one of the founders.

William Gibson has some good stuff but Snow Crash was special.
