Not too long ago, early in the Pandemic, I had minor surgery on my knee after an injury from a neighborhood hockey game. Every doctor, nurse, and others wore a medical face mask not to protect themself from my knee...they wore it to protect me from getting an infection from one of them just in case one of them was infected with something that they were not aware of just yet (not showing symptoms of illness). Simply, those that have a strong belief that face masks worn by others in the medical field (e.g. in a surgical room) that may be infected with something will not protect you from them...ask them to take off their face mask and proceed with the surgery but only after you sign a disclosure statement that you will not sue them for malpractice if you were to become infected or die from an infection. Staphylococcus aureus sits on doctor's pager / desk / telephone, Corynebacterium striatum lives on the sink faucet and door knobs, and Enterococcus faecalis hangs out on hospital bedrails—all threatening the health of patients. Clostridium difficile is the most common cause of hospital-acquired infections. It's a common bacteria that lives in our digestive system of healthy employees and sick patients. It's deadly to patients in the hospital and under medical care from medicine (e.g. antibiotics) Any of the above deadly bacteria are found in hospitals and medical facilities. Simply, there's a reason why medical personnel wears a face mask because too many idiots are out there that will sue them if they do not wear a medical face mask and then something goes wrong with the health of a patient or hospital visitor. If they really care about your health...they'll properly wash their hands too with anti-bacterial soap for a minimum of 20 seconds prior to having any contact with you (the patient).
