Cornel West, Progressive Scholar, Announces Third-Party Bid for President

Discussion in 'Politics' started by Tony Stark, Jun 6, 2023.

  1. West is really bad for Biden. Jill Stein was basically unknown. Cornell West has been in the media for a long time. Forget Biden's +4.5% margin. The real margin of victory was .63% (the difference between Biden and Trump in WI). It was .31% in AZ and .24% in GA. If Trump does 1% better nationally he almost certainly wins the election. The Green Party got .26% in 2020. With somebody like West at the top of the ticket (and people disapproving of both parties) I wouldn't be shocked if they could pull in 1%+ (mostly at Biden's expense).

Indeed.West is already polling higher than the total % of votes both Stein and Nader received.

Once you hit the campaign trail you might take some of Wests votes though:cool:

What has this got to do with standards? I can't think of any policy other than public option that can reduce the uninsured rate and it is impossible to pass.

You are unwilling to give a direct answer because you have no clue what you are talking about. I have asked you ten times to name the policy and instead you try to deflect with sophistry.

Ive stated the result, the same result LBJ,Obama and Clinton achieved, get healthcare for a significant amount of people who don't have it.If a democrat president cant figure out how to get healthcare for those that don't have it they shouldn't be a democrat president.

  5. What could you realistically expect Biden to accomplish with a 50-50 Senate (with at least 2 members against the filibuster) and 6-3 conservative SCOTUS to overturn progressive executive orders? He’s not a dictator.

Biden is also against the getting rid of filibuster. He is also against adding judges to SCOTUS.He cant use those as excuses when he supports them.

  8. While Obamacare did some good things (particularly with pre-existing conditions), let us not forget that it is a giant corporate handout. He had 60 senators, but couldn’t get Lieberman on board with the public option (which was the most important piece to controlling cost). After Obamacare, middle class families saw their premiums skyrocket with a massive consolidation of the healthcare industry and limited competition.

He didn't get Lieberman on board with the public option but he substituted EVERYONE up to 138% poverty level getting medicaid.

Most middle class people gets credits for premiums,I know many who get around 500.00 a month.

Certainly better than what Biden has done.

If two Democrats are against filibuster reform then you need 52 Senators to start with
It is still the easiest path then trying to create new states
