Starting today, June 28, 2021, CME Group has removed the trading halt between 3:15 and 3:30 p.m. CT on CME Globex for Equity Index products.

This enhancement will allow market participants to access liquidity continuously throughout the trading day and manage event risk that occurs during the trading session with greater ease.

Subject to regulatory review and effective June 28, 2021, CME and CBOT will eliminate the 3:15 p.m. – 3:30 p.m. Central Time (CT) trading halt on CME Globex which currently exists for certain Equity futures and options contracts.

The halt was initially implemented to account for transactions conducted via open outcry in the trading pits and is therefore no longer necessary.

Will this change affect AMPs day margin availability?

Does this cover equity index options? What instruments does this cover? Can't find any additional information on their site. And this removal of the trading halt, does this mean the trading will continue from 3:15 to 3:30 PM CST seamlessly or would it still stop at 3:15 PM CST and then resume afterwards and continue until 3:30 PM?

Yes, it trades seamlessly. Was watching it yesterday, it performed just like any same-ol' session. Was completely drama-free. Watch for it today. Just a *yawn*

And by definition, it would not "still stop at 3:15 PM and resume at 3:30PM". That's what they are saying. There's no more trading halt.

@Buy1Sell2 LOL, hey B1, I never read this from AMP's page fully until now, and found this bit...

"Another known risk is the market trades to the CME Market Limit Market Halt Liquidation Trigger Price and AMP Risk closes your open position and the market does NOT continue to trade to the CME Limit Halt Price. This is out of our control, we do NOT know what the markets will do...we just need to have prudent risk management in order to allow normal Day Trade Margins during the US Overnight Session..."

Do you work for AMP Clearing? ;-)

Many traders are under the impression day trade margin on futures ends around New York close time, because this is the case with Interactive Brokers.

But AMP day trade margin on futures remains till 1 hour after the New York equity close.

So this means less risk for AMP and AMP clients who used to hold through that 15 minute halt time. Less gap risk on stops.

I do not have equity index options charts, because I do not trade options. Take a look at your equity index option screens in 5 minutes, and see if you see order/trading activity going on. If you do? That is your sign.

So they just extended trading until 3:30 PM CST for equity index options as well? Wish they could've just worded it like that instead of this trading halt and removing of trading halt business.
