Finance Minister Christine Lagarde told radio station Europe 1 that BNP Paribas plans to reopen shortly the three investment funds that it froze recently.

Lagarde's comments follow her meeting today with BNP Paribas CEO Baudouin Prot.

On Monday, BNP Paribas said it was aiming to reopen the funds as early as the end of August. It froze Parvest Dynamic ABS, BNP Paribas ABS Euribor and BNP Paribas ABS Eonia on Aug 9, citing a 'complete evaporation of liquidity in certain segments of the US securitisation market'.

Lagarde told Europe 1 today: 'I have just received the chief executive of BNP, who gave me the information I needed about the three funds they are managing.'

She added: 'I know that they are currently working actively towards reopening the three funds quickly.'
