Black Pastors Help Rand Paul Divine That Voter ID Laws Are 'Offending People' May 9, 2014 1:54PM ET / Politics Arit John Sen. Rand Paul is now a disciple of the anti-voter ID movement, after the black pastors he met with on Friday showed him the way and the truth about measures that tend to decrease minority voter turnout. After meeting with the pastors, Paul shared the good news with Jeremy W. Peters of The New York Times: the GOP needs to "lay off" the whole voter ID laws thing, according to Peters. "It's offending people," Paul said. This isn't the first time Paul has met with black pastors â it's just one element of his ongoing attempt to be the face of (successful) GOP outreach to black and Hispanic voters. And this also isn't the first time he's come out against the restrictive voter fraud laws in red states that disproportionately affect black voters (who are more likely to vote for Democrats). Last month, during a conversation with David Axelrod, a former advisor of President Obama, Paul said he was against the restrictions on early voting passed in Ohio and Wisconsin, according to The Huffington Post. Paul has also come out in favor of restoring voting rights to ex-felons. During last month's conversation, however, he didn't come out against ID laws. "Dead people do still vote in some elections. There is still some fraud. And so we should stop that, and one way of doing it is (driver's licenses)," he said at the time. The problem is, when a political party that has a reputation for pushing policies that work against minorities, people will get offended. Thank God someone finally told Paul. http://www.thewire.com/politics/201...at-voter-id-laws-are-offending-people/362013/
It's obvious now that he's running for President in 2016. Looks like he's trying to buy some of the rare black swing votes with this tactic. Showing ID to vote is complete common sense, and he just gave me a good reason to second guess voting for him after this stunt!
Romney told the gov of Arizona to veto the religious liberty bill that would prevent Christians from being forced to participate in homo weddings. Then Romney said just recently that he is for the min wage hike. Now Paul wants to do away with voter id requirements. I'm going to give Cruz the benefit of the doubt, but other than him there is not one single republican pol in Washington we can trust to stand up for what are supposed to be republican principles. They will sell us out in a heartbeat.
That's correct. We're literally down to one guy who hasn't sold us out, and that's Ted Cruz. Even worse, the same ol' same ol' players are planning to run. Again... The local paper here pointed out Rubio wants to run. Add in Jeb Bush, and ONCE AGAIN, the republican party will lose. America is basically all finished up.
There are others, Sen. Mike Lee and Sen. Jeff Sessions, for example. There are some very admirable guys in the House as well. Rep. Walter Jones of NC for one. When the leadership is Boehner, Cantor, Ryan etal, however, the stench tends to taint them all. I can live with moderate republicans who get elected in blue states. What really fries me are people like Sen. Lindsey Graham and Rep. Renee Elmers of NC. Are republican primary voters so dumb they can't do better than this pair? I ask that rhetorically. We are talking about voters who nominated John McCain for president after all.
I disagree. Cruz will not be president, Paul has a good chance. Listening to other Americans even those that the far right tea party hates is what a leader of all Americans should do. I could vote for Paul, never for Cruz. I probably won't vote if it's between Clinton and Bush, same thing in my opinion.
The way the republicans handle picking presidential nominees, you dems have nothing to worry about. 2016 will be yet another failure of the repubs to pull together for the greater good vs what they've done since Reagan left office. They'll fuck it up to be damned. Now the senate is another story. The dems are toast this year.
