President Biden’s approval is hovering just above 60 percent more than four months into his presidency, buoyed by his handling of the coronavirus pandemic and improving views of the U.S. economy, according to a new Harvard CAPS/Harris poll released exclusively to The Hill. Overall, 62 percent of respondents said they either strongly or somewhat approve of the job Biden is doing in the White House, while 38 percent said they disapprove. By comparison, former President Trump scored 45 percent approval in a May 2017 Harvard CAPS/Harris poll. Biden gets his highest marks for his handling of the coronavirus pandemic, with 70 percent saying they like the job he’s done so far to rein in the outbreak. But he also performs well among voters when it comes to his stewardship of the economy and stimulating jobs, garnering 62 percent approval on each front. Nearly as many — 61 percent — said they approve of how he is administering the government. Biden gets his worst reviews on his handling of immigration, though a majority — 53 percent — still say they approve of how he’s handling the matter. The poll suggests that overall perceptions of both major political parties are also improving. Fifty-five percent of respondents said they approve of the Democratic Party, up from 53 percent last month. Meanwhile, approval of the GOP ticked up to 49 percent from 46 percent at the end of April, according to the Harvard CAPS/Harris poll. “The Biden honeymoon rolls on as people see the virus receding and the economy improving — no drop at all in approval of Biden and if anything the country is warming to both political parties for the first time,” said Mark Penn, the director of the Harvard CAPS/Harris poll. “We see some softening of hard partisan lines with the Democrats over 50 [percent] in favorability and Republicans also improving,” he added. Biden’s steady approval rating tracks with improving perceptions of the U.S. economy. In total, 56 percent of respondents said they view the economy as “strong,” up more than 10 points since January. Likewise, the percentage of Americans who say their personal finances are improving has risen 5 points since January to 33 percent, while the percentage who say that things are getting worse has dropped from 28 percent to 23 percent in the same time span.
President Joe Biden’s approval rating is at 60%, according to a new poll released by Hill-HarrisX. Sixty percent of registered voters in the May 17-19 poll said they approved of the job Biden was doing, a figure similar to the previous poll in late April. Of that 60%, 27% said they “strongly approved” of Biden’s performance with 33% saying they “somewhat approve.” Biden’s disapproval rating of 40% was split with 28% saying they “strongly disapprove” and 12% saying they “somewhat disapprove.” The president gets a 94% approval rating from his own party - 52% “strongly approve” and 42% “somewhat approve” – and 68% among independents (21% “strongly approve” and 47% “somewhat approve.”) The numbers fall sharply among Republicans who give him an approval rating of 23% and a disapproval rating of 77% - 58% “strongly disapprove” and 19% who “somewhat disapprove.” On individual topics, Biden received his highest ranking – 68% - for his handling of the coronavirus outbreak. Fifty-seven percent said they approve of Biden’s handling of the economy and stimulating jobs and 56% approved of his efforts to fight terrorism. Biden received his lowest approval ratings – 49% - for handling of immigration. The Hill-HarrisX poll was conducted online among 1,889 registered voters with a margin of error of 2.25 percentage points.
It is very common for political polls to have partisan leanings. So common, in fact, that poll tracking site 538.com handicaps each major pollster by their partisan lead. For example, Rasmussen Reports has been assigned a 1.5% mean reverted bias to the right. The pollster was very favorable to Donald Trump. It was one of the few services to ever show him above 50% at any time in his presidency. Joe Biden, unlike Trump, has spent essentially all his time in office over the 50% mark. And on Monday, the president hit his all time highest ranking in the right-leaning survey. The site noted, “The Rasmussen Reports daily Presidential Tracking Poll for Monday shows that 54% of Likely U.S. Voters approve of President Biden’s job performance. Forty-three percent (43%) disapprove.” Rasmussen also tweeted, “Reader Update: President Biden may be on track for his highest 3-day average daily presidential job approval % of his new presidency. Developing.” The numbers drew immediate condemnation from Republican Twitter. A number of the pollster’s Twitter followers called the information fake and threatened to stop following the feed. Democratic Ted Lieu was in a celebratory mood upon seeing the numbers. The California lawmaker tweeted, “From the conservative leaning Rasmussen poll, these are great numbers for President Biden. Turns out that the American people like a POTUS who is focused on beating the pandemic, creating jobs, and not inciting an insurrection.”
TRUE!!! Even the extremely biased subtract 5-10 points from democrats /add 5-10 points to republicans Rasmussen has Biden Net approval +11
