Anyone know if you can trade backspreads in an IRA at IB? I'm looking to sell let's say 2 contracts at the money and buy 6 contracts out of the money, for a net debit. Both long and short legs will expire the same date. I cought CMG at the bottom, calculated my returns if I had put one of these spreads on and am starting to wonder if this is a viable option in an IRA. ENDP is about to make a HUGE move UP too.
At IB, or any broker, place the order and see what happens. If it goes thru you're all set. If not, you call customer service. Simple.
i would imagine the margin wouldnt be any more than short 2 verticals and a cash outlay of the 4 remaining. As long as the expiration is identical , IRA shoudnt be an issue.
