As rising fees continue to fuel misgivings about banks, consumers are turning to an alternative: credit unions. According to statistics from the Credit Union National Association, or CUNA, 3.7 million people joined one of these not-for-profit institutions in 2015 to reach a record high of total members. I worked in one for a few years in a tiny one and got to help turn them around, was a ton of fun working there as you get to play a part in so much stuff. We had a killer ROA, regulators asked us to increase the interest paid on savings and CD's to lower it lol. Also very nice for getting low car loan rates and they will compete if somebody makes you a better offer sometimes.
