All people need from the government is info on the true risk. After that people can decide for themselves what risk they're willing to accept. This of course assumes you're dealing with rational human beings that understand there is no such thing as 100% risk free living.
Of course, this is all based on the government is providing truthful information about a deadly pandemic so people can make their own proper risk/reward choices. The state government of Florida is less than transparent about COVID data -- and have been deliberately hiding data to mislead the public based on the DeSantis administration's political agenda. This lack of transparency undermines the very foundation of trust in government.
